Today Crew Shields have been working on writing poems about the negatives of bullying. This is building on from the learning we started yesterday after watching a video that had themes around bullying and disabilities. We’ve discussed how we should build each other up, not tear them down.

Marvellous Maths
Great fun had by all this morning as practiced our timetables. Children were able to play board games that allowed them to use their timetable knowledge but also demonstrate their be kind howl. So lovely seeing the children working together while also supporting each other to be successful.
A carousel of maths in MI
Before we started transition week, we got to work on some times tables practise. We took part in a carousel of activities including bingo with Mrs McClare, rapid recall of all our times tables, times tables rockstar work and a number card game. We worked against a timer, pushing ourselves whilst concentrating on each task. Great work Crew MI 🙂

Day 2 of Crew Fox cooking
Today was time for the main course… traffic light chicken kebabs! Before our cooking and preparation began, we learned about cross contamination. This was important to understand so that we are staying safe whilst cooking.
First we made the marinade using paprika, tomato ketchup and chopped garlic. Then we chopped the chicken in to large chunks before we marinated it thoroughly. Whilst some of us were chopping chicken, others were chopping peppers into large chunks. Finally, we created the skewers and cooked them in the oven. Delicious!

Crew MI 7.7.22 Pancakes…
We’ve been cooking again today. Today, we really enjoyed making healthy pancakes. We worked in groups and took it in turns to measure and mix the ingredients. When the mixture was ready, we each made our own pancake and had it with fruit and yoghurt. Delicious!

Soup making!
Today during DT, we made our own tomato soup… from scratch! We followed the recipe and worked as mini crews to prepare the food before we began cooking. We were really patient with each other showing great HOWLs all morning.

Food labels – Can we identify the healthy options?
As part of our learning, we have explored the labels on food packaging. We have learned about the traffic light colouring which helps us make healthier options when buying food. We had a go at ranking the foods from most healthy to least healthy. Some children were shocked by some foods they though were okay but they are actually really high in sugar.
Massive shoutout to Millie, who has brought us in loads of food packaging (pretty much a weeks worth of packaging) and to the other children who contributed some food packets. I love how Crew Shields are always willing and eager to bring in resources from home to support the learning in class while also taking the pressure off myself to find everything. This is most definitely what crew is all about! 💖
Pancakes – the end of our cooking journey
Over this week we have cooked a starter, main and some healthy dessert options. Today, we have enjoyed some pancakes as we discussed that everything should be eaten in moderation so we’ve had pancakes with maple syrup and raspberries.
As with everything else we’ve baked this week, we’ve had a gluten free pancakes today. We actually preferred the gluten free option. It has really surprised us that in most cases we have enjoyed the gluten free version.
Crew Welburn’s new toy!
We have received a new device in Crew Welburn which we are absolutely loving! It is called a yoto and we use it to listen to our favourite stories and songs. So far, we have listened to ‘Funnybones’, ‘The Highway Rat’ and ‘Animal Stories’. We have listened carefully and acted out parts of the stories with funny actions. We can’t wait to explore all of the other stories we have!
