Year 6 Celebrate with a Bowling Trip

On Wednesday afternoon, pupils from Crew Gray, Crew Godley, Crew McLoughlin and Crew White enjoyed a well-deserved trip to Adwick Leisure Centre to celebrate their hard work and resilience throughout SATs week and their final year at Carcroft School.

The adventure began with a journey on the public bus, where pupils represented the school brilliantly. Staff were incredibly proud of the maturity, respect and responsibility shown throughout the trip. Their excellent manners were noticed by members of the public and reflected the character they have developed during their time at Carcroft.

For some pupils, the afternoon was particularly memorable as it was their first ever visit to a bowling alley. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they tried something new alongside their friends.

Once the games began, there were plenty of strikes, spares and celebrations. Pupils encouraged one another throughout and showed fantastic sportsmanship, making the afternoon enjoyable for everyone.

The trip was an opportunity to celebrate more than academic success. Throughout the year, Year 6 have demonstrated perseverance, kindness and a commitment to working hard. The bowling trip provided a chance to recognise these achievements and create lasting memories together.

We would like to thank the staff at Adwick Leisure Centre for their warm welcome and congratulate all of our Year 6 pupils for being excellent ambassadors for Carcroft School. Well done, Year 6 – a well-earned reward for all of your hard work!

From Cocoon to Courage: Embracing Change

Today, Crew Godley explored the idea of stepping out of comfort zones through the concept of molting in a caterpillar’s life cycle. Just as a caterpillar must shed its old skin to grow, moving from primary to secondary school requires leaving behind familiar routines. We reflected on the benefits and challenges of staying within boundaries and discussed how growth can feel uncomfortable but necessary. Through a drama-based activity, we represented the process of breaking through limits before finishing with a reflection on how kindness and support from our crew can help us feel safe during times of change.

Embracing Change: From Chrysalis to Secondary School

Today, Crew Godley explored the concept of transformation through the chrysalis stage of a butterfly’s life cycle. We learned that, although a chrysalis appears still on the outside, significant internal change is taking place. We linked this idea to their own transition to secondary school.

We discussed how change is not always visible and that feeling unsettled or unsure is a normal part of growth. We then sorted visible changes and internal feelings associated with moving to a new school, before reflecting on the positive habits they want to develop as they prepare for this next stage.

Wings of Change: Navigating our next chapter…

Today, in our expedition lesson, Crew Godley explored the connection between the butterfly life cycle and the emotions we experience when starting something new. Using the example of a fragile butterfly egg, they learned that the early stages of growth require the right support and can feel uncertain. They reflected on their own experiences of transition, such as starting a new school year, and discussed how different emotions, like excitement and anxiety, can exist at the same time. Through a collaborative activity, we sorted and discussed emotions before finishing with a short reflection to build their self-awareness and understanding of change.

Working Hard to Get Smart in Maths

Crew Godley have been working hard in maths, developing their understanding of how to calculate percentages of amounts. In particular, Sharni-Mae has shown great determination and focus, approaching each challenge with a positive attitude and growing in confidence when applying her skills to solve problems. Well done, Crew – keep up the fantastic work!

Crew Godley – Nature Ambassadors

The whole of Crew Godley were absolutely fantastic during our recent presentation with Mr Sprakes. Every single pupil rose to the occasion and demonstrated just how much effort and dedication they had put into their learning. They showed real courage when reading aloud, supporting one another and taking pride in sharing their ideas, even when it felt challenging.

They spoke with growing confidence and clarity, articulating their thoughts in a way that truly engaged their audience. What stood out most was their ability to explain, in thoughtful detail, how they developed the quad area. They didn’t just describe what they had done – they explained the reasoning behind their choices, showing a deep understanding of how to create and sustain a biodiverse environment.

It was clear that they had developed not only their knowledge but also crew and communication skills throughout the project. Watching them present with such enthusiasm, ownership, and pride was a genuinely special moment. I was absolutely bursting with pride at everything they have achieved.

Exploring Thousandths as Fractions

Crew Godley have been working incredibly hard to deepen their understanding of how numbers can be represented in different ways – particularly focusing on thousands expressed as fractions.

To support their learning, we used a range of manipulative to physically explore how a whole can be divided into equal parts and how those parts relate to thousandths. We investigated how one whole can be partitioned into 1,000 equal parts and what this looks like when represented as fractions. Through discussion and collaboration we were able to recognise patterns and simplify these fractions, linking their understanding to equivalent fractions and decimal forms.

Easter Fun

Today, we proudly showcased their wonderful Easter egg creations. We had a Creeper from Minecraft, a delicious looking burger and a fabulous Wicked creation! A big well done to everyone who took part in this joyful celebration of creativity – what an egg-cellent effort all round!

Crew at the Park

Crew Godley enjoyed a visit to the local park where they took part in a range of fun crew-building activities. The children worked together to complete different challenges, showing great teamwork, communication, and encouragement towards one another. Crew Godley represented the school brilliantly and had a wonderful time learning and having fun together.
