Crew McLoughlin Takes Part in First Aid Training

Crew McLoughlin recently took part in an exciting and informative first aid training session, supported by their adults from home. The session gave young people the opportunity to learn important life-saving skills and develop a better understanding of how the human body works.

During the training, the crew learned about DR ABC, a simple but essential process used when responding to an emergency. They explored what each step means:

  • D – Danger
  • R – Response
  • A – Airway
  • B – Breathing
  • C – Circulation

Understanding DR ABC helps people assess a situation safely and decide what action needs to be taken to help someone who may be injured or unwell.

The group also learned about the circulatory system and discussed what makes it healthy or unhealthy. They explored how the heart pumps blood around the body and why it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition, regular exercise, and positive habits. The young people considered how choices such as smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise can negatively affect the circulatory system.

One of the most engaging parts of the session was learning how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Crew members practised the correct techniques for chest compressions and learned when CPR may be needed. They discovered how quick action can make a significant difference in an emergency situation.

The training also introduced the crew to the use of a defibrillator (AED). They learned what a defibrillator does, when it should be used, and how the device provides clear instructions to help people respond confidently during a cardiac emergency. Practising with training equipment helped everyone feel more comfortable and prepared.

The session was a fantastic learning experience, and Crew McLoughlin showed great enthusiasm throughout. A big thank you goes to the adults from home who supported the event and helped make the learning possible. By developing these first aid skills, the crew has gained valuable knowledge that could one day help them save a life.

Well done to everyone involved for their participation, teamwork, and commitment to learning such important skills.

LKS2 – Family Learning

It was great to see so many grown ups join us for our family learning last week. We learning about the teeth, made a model with marshmallows before building the digestive system using play dough. It was great hearing the children teach their parents about the different types of teeth and how the digestive system works. And of course, we ended with a Kahoot quiz which showcased everything we had learned during the week.

Crew McGlone family learning afternoon!

Thank you to the grown ups who joined us in school to take part in Crew McGlone’s first ever family learning afternoon! We had a great time working together to follow instructions to make sun-catchers. It was lovely to see so many people join us and the smiles on faces just made the whole afternoon worthwhile. We look forward to having our grown ups in school again soon!

UKS2 Family Learning

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our first family learning session of the term. It was lovely to see so many children and parents taking part in the space quiz and having some lighthearted fun along the way blind tasting the space-themed named sweet treats. Well done to our winning team who got to take home a bar of galaxy!

Crew MW’s Stay and Engage

Thank you to all of our grown ups for coming in to school today to help us with our expedition learning! This week in Crew MW, we have been looking at different ways to help the Gingerbread Man to cross the river. We talked about how using an animal wouldn’t work as they would probably eat him, how he couldn’t swim as he would get all soggy and crumble into pieces, and how we would need to use materials that float. After drawing our designs out, we invited our grown ups in to help us to create them, We loved having you all in to help us bring our designs to life and we think they look amazing! We can;t wait to display them on our corridor display!

Hook Week in nursery!

We have started our Spring expedition here in nursery. It is called “Once Upon a Time” and our guiding question is “Who is hiding in the pages of this book?” During hook week we have read the story ‘The Great Nursery Rhyme Disaster’ and explored the different nursery rhymes in the book. We made a list of nursery rhymes we liked, sung nursery rhymes in class and acted out nursery rhymes in our nursery puppet theatre. Our parents came in to share a story or rhyme with us this Friday and we have had lots of fun making ‘Rhyming stones’ for our outdoor area. Phew! We have even met lots of new friends that started nursery this week and have helped them to settle in.

Well done FS1!
