Marks in our environment.

Crew Frost have loved being outside this week so much that we decided to make it bright and colorful with our mark making skills. The children have loved making lines, circles, and various shapes such as circles and hearts! We have shown great control keeping within the brick lines and using our imagination to create figures like our grown ups or our pets we care about.

Scissor skills

This week in crew Frost the children have been learning how to use scissors. The children first discussed how to use the scissors safety and what items we cut. We then practiced how we hold the scissors for moving around the classroom and when we are ready to cut. We then challenged the children to follow the patterned lines on the sheets. The children astonished us how they were able to maneuver their way around the task following the patterned sheets. We can’t wait to keep practicing this fine motor task.

Following the leader.

This week crew Frost have been practicing their listening and attention skills in follow the leader style games! They have been amazing at starting, stopping, up high, and down low. Furthermore, we have expanded our vocabulary by learning new words such as wavy and arch. They have built astonishing problem solving skills when working together in the game seen below to stop the ball from rolling off. We cannot wait to stretch and challenge this lesson next time. Well done crew Frost!

Tracing map

We have been working very hard in crew Frost this week! The students have been learning how to complete a new welcome task. Using clear A4 wallets we have placed a document with various dashes and dots, creating shapes and patterns named after a tracing mat. The tracing mat is a foundational skill the children will master to begin forming marks for their names! It is also a great tool for helping our crew practice our listening and attention skills.

Autumn slice.

Crew Frost has had so much fun returning back this week! We have been learning all about autumn and the changes we see outside and the events we might celebrate. This week the children have enjoyed using pumpkins and colored golf pins to create their own patterns and arrangements, this really pushed our fine motor development by having to use hammers to secure our pins. We also enjoyed building our social and emotional skills by sharing with our friends and using our listening skills to recall how we use the tools safely.

Fred bingo!

This week the children have been introduced to Fred Bingo! Each child is given a sheet of six CVC words, the adult Freds the words and the children mark off the correct image, the first one to finish wins! This has been so much fun, building on our pictorial skills and our oral blending. They cannot wait for new images next week!

What can you hear?

This week the nursery children went on an environmental walk to see what they could hear. We heard a bus, ambulance, birds, and much more! The children gave meanings to the marks they made on their clip board to help them remember the sounds. This was also a great opportunity to practice our lines and circles. Then the children came back to the classroom and tried to think of the sounds we were Fredding. They were amazing at orally blending the sounds! We can’t wait to go on another walk soon.

Phonics play

During the lead up to phonics the children will be mastering the foundational skills needed to learn their sounds. During this lesson the children are learning all about the sounds around them, tapping out the rhythmic patterns they can hear in nursery songs, and practicing how to Fred some simple cvc words with a touch of musical fun. They were also amazing at matching the sound level from quite to loud well done crew Frost!
