Crew Ramsay and Crew Barber had a very special visit from our local Firefighters today! We learned about their Firetruck and even had a go sitting in the cabin! This was a lovely ending to our first case study about Firefighters!

In Crew Ramsay, we have been getting to know Vlad The Flea. We had a story time, watched videos about The Great Fire of London, learned new words for ‘little’ and then did a whip-around protocol to share facts about Vlad. We are now so excited to get writing about Vlad in our Literacy topic!

In computing this week, we have started to think about possible inventions we could make. We revisited the technology safari that we did last week to remind ourselves of all the different things we see daily that have a computer in them.
We looked at a rocket powered chair and started to think about some questions we would like to ask about it. Miss Shields helped to rephrase some of the words to ensure it was phrased as a question.

Before we create our own inventions, we watched Dr Binocs who told us about technology inventions that changed our lives. This was to support children with starting to generate ideas about what their invention could be before they design their own in the next session.
Crew Ramsay have been creating Dennis Creffield inspired, mixed media artwork to showcase our Great Fire Of London learning! We started with charcoal and layered this with tissue paper. We have been learning about colour and mood and used this in our art project. Look how proud we are of our final pieces!

This morning we celebrated our amazing Learning Legends and Home Learning Legends!

In year 2 this afternoon, we have continued our learning about technology by doing a safari around school to see what technology we could spot. We used a whiteboard and pen to help us record the technology we could see. It was also a great opportunity to apply our phonics knowledge for spelling. When we returned to class, we complied a list while discussing why this would be classed as technology.

This afternoon, Crew Ramsay have been continuing using charcoal as a medium for art. Today, they were drawing a Tudor house using a marking making, blending, lines and shapes. We spent some time looking at the shapes used to help us structure our own drawing. We discussed the shapes and how to put these together to draw a Tudor house. Once we had finished, children conducted a gallery walk and started to think of the class praises and wonders.

Today in expedition we have been artists. We have worked really hard to use charcoal effectively to create our own sketch of Carcroft School. We had a practice of using different skills and techniques before applying this knowledge to our learning. Miss Holdsworth was really impressed that we remembered some of our key words when praising each others work, such as blending and outline. We were so proud of the beautiful work we produced, we showcased this by completing a gallery walk.

In computing, we started the lesson by recapping the different parts of the computer and the purpose of these parts. We then started to investigate inputs which was focused on type buttons we have on different devices. When we press buttons, we are giving the computer commands and asking it to perform a job. We then designed our own robot thinking about the commands we would like to be able to give it. Miss Shields modelled drawing a robot that could do her weekly shop but most importantly put the groceries away. It was great seeing the children confidently sharing their robot design in-front of the rest of their crew.

This week in Crew we have been learning how to form letters, trying our best at focusing and remembering our phonics sounds. Our next goal is to master how to write our name!
