Today we have been using the Base Ten to multiply by ten and then record the abstract equations! We were able to see the commutativity of multiplication. We also explored the division facts associated with these multiplication facts.

In today’s handwriting lesson we looked at ‘the misfits’. I was blown away with how the children showed great listening skills during the input and then showcased their beautiful work by producing this handwriting. They all worked extremely hard and this really does show! Great work Crew Ramsey keep it up 🙂

We watched a video of Dorothy seeing colour for the first time in Oz and then created some inspired drawings. The children were given autonomy to create whatever they wanted with the theme, ‘the colours of Oz.’ Here they are enjoying some creative literary time!

We have been learning about the 2 times tables using bricks to visualise what this looks like. We noticed doubles! We then wrote out the abstract form and noticed the commutativity of multiplication… check us out!

For our first day back we enjoyed an extended crew session in Crew Ramsay. We spoke about the beautiful Work in our class last half term and celebrated these with the new unveiling of our Beautiful Work display. These children have worked on their pledges and showcased real growth and perseverance! We then enjoyed a challenge in groups playing The Leaning Tower of Feet-za! This reminded us to reflect on our work/challenges and strategise for improvement, always. Great work guys!

We have been really grasping the concept of multiplication by exposing the structure of repeated addition first. Here we are multiplying numbers with bricks, base ten and sticks! We are so secure with this now that writing equations is easy work. Good Job Crew Ramsay!

This week we launched our learning for Case Study 2: Geography. We learned the seven continent names and learned a song to help us retain it! We used atlases and maps to locate the continents and had some fun looking at various styles of maps such as topographical and OS. What a brilliant start to our local Geography unit.

We have started our independent writing which is a recount inspired by The Day The crayons Quit. Here we are taking great pride in our work and getting smart by being aware of our targets.

We have been busy in our concrete maths session using sticks to build numbers as part of our Multiplication and Division unit. To kickstart this unit, pupils used sticks in bundles of 12 to make equal groups. They drew upon their shape learning to make equal groups too. We then had a gallery walk to see the different representations and orientations before making ‘unequal groups’. What a brilliant day of hands on Maths!

In Crew Ramsay we have progressed to numbers beyond 10 in Mastering Number. We have been really trying to understand that teen numbers are composed of 10…and a bit more. We have chanted, pushed beads and danced our way into teen number fluency! Here we are enjoying some down time with our rekenreks playing a little composition bingo to embed prior learning. Well done Crew Ramsay, you are awesome mathematicians.
