Crew 4 weekly review (17.9.21)

We’ve had a pretty good week up in Crew 4. It was strange at first as we were all fully together, when we would normally be in groups to help with our learning. It was pleasing that this didn’t stop us from working hard, getting smart and being kind. We worked well as a Crew, to ensure that we produced beautiful work.

In maths, we have continued to build our knowledge of place value. We showed tremendous resilience to become super stars at rounding to ten and then transferred that knowledge impressively to round to the nearest 100. Well done for sticking at it! 😃

For reading, we have continued to work on our expression, reading pace (many of us beat our pace each day) and retrieving facts. We were little experts at this. Writing has been fun as we have finally finished creating our wonderful poems about the Dragon who ate our school. We have loved being poets as we have made them really engaging.

During Expedition, we have continued to explore the Guiding Question Comimg to Doncaster; why then and why now? As a Crew, we researched whether the Vikings came to Doncaster just to raid and terrify. The children were set the challenge of having to teach each other the varying reasons for settling in Doncaster. The children did this really well, with excellent enthusiasm and great collaboration. 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

Highlight of the week 🌠 Experience day in writing where we raided Lindisfarne Monastery, just like we had learned in Expedition. This was probably the best we have been involved in with the enthusiasm, behaviour and enjoyment shown by all. Check out the video below to see for yourselves 👇

Experience day 🐲🐉

Enjoy a well deserved weekend, Crew 4! I know that our HoWLs will continue to improve with a more settled week and that average will increase once more 😆

This week in Crew Mcloughlin (W/C 13/09)

Another busy week in Crew Mcloughlin…

After the fun and excitement of Harry Potter World last week, we were so eager to start narrating the first scenes of the Philosophers Stone in our writing lessons. The children have worked so hard thinking of ambitious vocabulary and producing quality writing, I’ve never known a Crew enjoy writing so much, it is lovely to see! Watch this space for Crew Mc sentence stackers and beautiful work. In Reading, we are really engaged with the text ‘The train to impossible places’ and working hard to improve how we verbally give Y6 answers during our discussions. In our expeditionary learning, the children have been creating their own videos, slides and fact cards on the experts they have been researching. They have found looking at how people have developed trains over the years rather interesting and motivating.

Our HoWL focus next week is to ‘Be Kind’ as we need to consider how we would like to be spoken to and respect each other, as this is not great in Crew at the moment. We all want to see our weekly average going up and be the best version Crew Mcloughlin can be!

Here’s some pictures to show what learning we’ve been getting up to…

This week in Crew Tucker… 17/9/21

We have had another brilliant week in Crew Tucker and we are going from strength to strength as the weeks progress and we become more settled and used to being back in school.

This week we have continued with our poetry writing in English and have grappled with rhyming words to create our own versions of the poem, ‘The Dragon Who Ate Our School’. The children have created some brilliant pieces and collaborated well to critique their work and improve.

We also had one our favourite ever experience days, where we re-enacted raiding Lindisfarne. This was such an awesome experience after we learned about the variety of reasons the Vikings came to settle in Doncaster. This helped us answer our Guiding Question further, Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now? The pictures below will give you a sense of what the children experienced but being in then hall and witnessing it first hand was truly special. A big thank you to our brilliant Phase Crew who worked so hard to put this together for the children!

Our HOWL average this week was 3.5. This is a brilliant score and has improved from last week showing how hard the children are working to improve.

Enjoy your long weekend everyone! We will see you bright and early Tuesday morning.

TWITP – LKS2 (17.9.21)

It’s been another fantastic week in Crew LKS2! We have loved building our fluency up in reading this week, as we tackled our book How to be a Viking.

Crew Fox blog w/c 13.9.21

This week, we’ve learned all about the train experts in our history case study. Throughout expedition, we’ve used ICT and secondary resources to research into the lives and work of James Watt, Sir Nigel Gresley, George Stephenson and Richard Trevithik. Crew Fox have created informative posters to share their findings about their chosen expert!

We are beginning to grasp all the rules of direct speech… there’s a lot to remember! We have worked hard and tried our best to create sentences using speech linking to the film clip Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, ready to start our first plot point next week. Watch out for Crew Fox sentence stackers!

Next week we will be immersed into our history with an experience day linking to the Industrial Revolution… watch this space for photos and videos!

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Mrs Fox

Crew MI 17.9.21

We have had another productive week in Crew MI. We have made a fantastic start to our narrative in writing lessons, using direct speech, varied openers and description. We have started producing our sentence stacking display in the classroom using children’s ideas from their own writing. We can’t wait to get more sentences on there as we progress through our plot points. Our reading lessons have also been great, children are continuing to show great enthusiasm for our class text and are really exploring character feelings, vocabulary and thinking about using the text to back up our answers. Children have also been working hard in maths lessons, rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We are still working on building our crew and we are continuing to think about kindness and ensuring we demonstrate this together.

Magical maths in Crew Welburn

Crew Welburn have spent the morning practicing their maths skills. We’ve been using manipulative objects to make numbers, to match objects to numbers and to order representations of numbers. Not only have we been working on our maths skills, but we’ve also been working in mini crews to build relationships, and to work on our sharing, listening and communication skills. We’ve had loads of fun and our HOWL scores were fantastic as a result!

Morning Yoga in Nursery!

This morning in nursery, we started our school day with a yoga class! Coach was really impressed with Kingsley’s listening skills and named him the PE champion! Kingsley is going to wear the PE medal with pride for the rest of the day.
