EYFS’s Celebration of Learning

9th December 2024A Welburn

Thank you to all of the grown ups who came to celebrate EYFS’s expedition learning with them last week! The children loved sharing what they had learnt about their ‘Be Kind’ expedition, and it was lovely to see all of the excited faces when we unveiled our final product!

Paddington and the grand tour

9th December 2024Sarah Mcglone

In expedition, we read ‘Paddington and the grand tour’ and talked about how Paddington was excited to visit lots of landmarks in London on an open top tour bus.

We worked as a crew to create our own open top tour bus, with Hayden as our bus driver! We then took it in turns to sit with our friends in a cafe and shared cakes, just like Paddington did. Finally, we built a beautiful palace, similar to Buckingham Palace which was a stop on the tour bus.

In Crew we like to learn life skills and brush up our fine motor skills. The children are getting used to sharing and taking in turns, which is fantastic!

Exploring this week’s text – Paddington!

15th October 2024A Welburn

This week in school, we have been exploring a new story – Paddington Bear! We started by reading the story and learning all about how the Brown family found Paddington at the train station and took him home to look after him. We thought this was really kind of them! After we had read the story, we talked about the different ways that the Brown family had shown they were kind. They took Paddington to the cafe for some food, they let him have a bath after he got all sticky – although this was a bit of a disaster with shaving foam and bubbles all over the bathroom! Finally, they gave him a nice cup of tea and some marmalade on toast in a comfy armchair. Miss Welburn set us up lots of different experiences so that we could feel like Paddington did in our expedition lessons!

We thought the shaving foam was soft and fluffy, and we know why Paddington got it all over the bathroom – because it was so fun to play with and splat!

The warm water and bubbles in our baths helped us to feel warm, cosy and clean – just like Paddington!

Finally, we got to make marmalade on toast which we thought was delicious! We loved filling up our tummies, and we all agreed that the Brown family were very kind to Paddington.

Exploring textures

3rd October 2024A Welburn

Yesterday in Crew F2, we made oobleck! We mixed cornflower and water to explore the different textures we could feel when we put our hands into the tuff tray. We said that the mixture felt soft, gloopy and slimy. We had lots of fun exploring.

Pyjama and Teddy Day in Crew McGlone!

25th September 2024Sarah Mcglone

We started our week by having a pyjama day! We also brought our favourite teddies into school with us and they spent the day finding out about what we get up to at school. We did a bear themed movement break and we really enjoyed lying down and snuggling our teddies whilst listening to ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We sat with our teddies at snack time and got a lovely surprise when we realised it wasn’t a fruit snack… it was a special chocolate biscuit! We had a lovely day!

Den building!

19th September 2024A Welburn

Yesterday in our outdoor provision area, we were really excited to try and build a den! We found lots of pieces of material and used the wooden posts to try and create our very own den, but it kept falling down! After talking to each other, we decided that some rope through the holes in the wooden pegs would be a good idea to peg the pieces of fabric to! Once our den was built, we climbed inside and pretended that we were ‘sleeping under the stars’! Some of us even made a camp fire to keep ourselves warm and to cook our food on. We had lots of fun building our den.

‘Dark Nights’…

18th September 2024Sophie Elmer

Two members from Doncaster Council visited our school this week to talk to all of our Year 5 and 6 pupils about ‘Dark Nights’. As the nights are starting to draw in, the volunteers discussed Halloween and Bonfire with us all and how we can ensure that we stay safe during these exciting occasions! We have learnt a lot about firework safety including how to hold sparklers and how to dispose of these safely, we are fully aware that only adults should be in charge of fireworks. We also learnt a lot about fire and how dangerous this can be, especially bonfires. The two adults also discussed anti-social behaviour such as breaking people’s windows, ‘knock a door run’ and swearing in public, and the consequences of these if we get caught. They also talked about ‘peer pressure’ and how common this is as we get older and mix with older children in the local community. They also briefly touched on water (ice) and road safety. They concluded the visit by showing us a clip similar to this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfFenwyoZcg to reinforce how important it is to keep ourselves and others safe during the upcoming ‘Dark Nights’. We learnt a lot from our talk and now feel fully prepared on how to enjoy Bonfire night and Halloween safely!

A surprise visitor in Crew McGlone!

18th September 2024Sarah Mcglone

Whilst we were having fun in the sunshine in our outdoor area, someone (or something) visited our classroom and left us a little gift! We noticed that there were footprints near our reading area, along with a mystery gift bag. We talked about what might have left the footprints and what might be in the bag.

Miss McGlone then told us that the mystery visitor had been caught on camera and showed us pictures of a bear stood in our classroom! We said that the bear looked cute and fluffy and that it must be a kind bear because it left us a present! We predicted what we thought might be in the bag before finding out it was a… book! A book called ‘The Everywhere Bear’. We used our noticing lens to talk about what we could see on the front cover and thought the story might be about children at school who find a bear. We cannot wait to read our new story and we feel very lucky that the bear decided to leave us such a lovely gift!
