Pyjama and Teddy Day in Crew McGlone!

25th September 2024Sarah Mcglone

We started our week by having a pyjama day! We also brought our favourite teddies into school with us and they spent the day finding out about what we get up to at school. We did a bear themed movement break and we really enjoyed lying down and snuggling our teddies whilst listening to ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We sat with our teddies at snack time and got a lovely surprise when we realised it wasn’t a fruit snack… it was a special chocolate biscuit! We had a lovely day!

Den building!

19th September 2024A Welburn

Yesterday in our outdoor provision area, we were really excited to try and build a den! We found lots of pieces of material and used the wooden posts to try and create our very own den, but it kept falling down! After talking to each other, we decided that some rope through the holes in the wooden pegs would be a good idea to peg the pieces of fabric to! Once our den was built, we climbed inside and pretended that we were ‘sleeping under the stars’! Some of us even made a camp fire to keep ourselves warm and to cook our food on. We had lots of fun building our den.

‘Dark Nights’…

18th September 2024Sophie Elmer

Two members from Doncaster Council visited our school this week to talk to all of our Year 5 and 6 pupils about ‘Dark Nights’. As the nights are starting to draw in, the volunteers discussed Halloween and Bonfire with us all and how we can ensure that we stay safe during these exciting occasions! We have learnt a lot about firework safety including how to hold sparklers and how to dispose of these safely, we are fully aware that only adults should be in charge of fireworks. We also learnt a lot about fire and how dangerous this can be, especially bonfires. The two adults also discussed anti-social behaviour such as breaking people’s windows, ‘knock a door run’ and swearing in public, and the consequences of these if we get caught. They also talked about ‘peer pressure’ and how common this is as we get older and mix with older children in the local community. They also briefly touched on water (ice) and road safety. They concluded the visit by showing us a clip similar to this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfFenwyoZcg to reinforce how important it is to keep ourselves and others safe during the upcoming ‘Dark Nights’. We learnt a lot from our talk and now feel fully prepared on how to enjoy Bonfire night and Halloween safely!

A surprise visitor in Crew McGlone!

18th September 2024Sarah Mcglone

Whilst we were having fun in the sunshine in our outdoor area, someone (or something) visited our classroom and left us a little gift! We noticed that there were footprints near our reading area, along with a mystery gift bag. We talked about what might have left the footprints and what might be in the bag.

Miss McGlone then told us that the mystery visitor had been caught on camera and showed us pictures of a bear stood in our classroom! We said that the bear looked cute and fluffy and that it must be a kind bear because it left us a present! We predicted what we thought might be in the bag before finding out it was a… book! A book called ‘The Everywhere Bear’. We used our noticing lens to talk about what we could see on the front cover and thought the story might be about children at school who find a bear. We cannot wait to read our new story and we feel very lucky that the bear decided to leave us such a lovely gift!

Working as a crew!

16th September 2024A Welburn

We’ve had lots of fun today working as a crew to build houses and tunnels using our polydrons outside. We listened carefully to the instructions on how to make the different structures, and worked together to find the pieces, rotate them round and fit them together until we had built the house and the tunnel. We loved playing together in them!

Making playdough with Mrs Mason

10th September 2024Sarah Mcglone

This afternoon in nursery, some children decided to help Mrs Mason make our new batch of playdough! We looked at the ingredients and helped to tip the correct amounts into the bowl before taking it in turns to mix. We then waited patiently for Mrs Mason to take the mixture to the microwave which is when the magic happened! Whilst we waited, we decided to tidy away the mess and wipe the table so we left no trace (Dexter even got the hoover from the home corner out to hoover the table!). When Mrs Mason returned, as if by magic, the mixture was now playdough! We then spent the afternoon playing with it, using our hands and some tools to manipulate it into lots of different creations.

Crew F2’s first few days…

28th August 2024A Welburn

We’ve had a lovely time getting to know the children in Crew F2 over the past few days. We’ve explored provision, made lots of new friends and had time to sing and listen to stories! We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year hold with our new crew!

Our first afternoon as Crew McGlone!

27th August 2024Sarah Mcglone

We have had a lovely afternoon as the new Crew McGlone! The children have been exploring the classroom and the outdoor area, and making friends with our new crew members. We have all worked really hard to listen to our adults and follow their instructions first time. We have also been working hard to sit on the carpet with our legs criss-crossed. A fabulous first afternoon!

Outdoor provision in nursery

7th July 2024Sarah Mcglone

Lots of teamwork and problem solving in nursery this week. The children were working together to build a run for the balls to travel down to get into the bucket at the bottom.

Using water to create paintings around the outdoor area has also been rather popular this week and we can’t wait to do more of this next week!
