KS1 Book bags

Just a reminder, please can you unsure book bags are brought into school everyday and their books will be changed every Friday. We are wanting to monitor how many times children are reading at home and celebrate those children who are doing this 4 times.

Thank you in advance

Being scientists in hook week 🥼👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

In our expeditionary learning we started to wonder about how we see and how light travels. We watched a variety of clips to understand the different parts of the eye, how they help us see and how these parts are similar to a camera. We even used pen torches (like a real nurse/doctor) to see how our pupils got smaller to let less light in.

We then took part in a scientific investigation where we explored the question, ‘How do we know that light travels in straight lines?’ We used given equipment to set up our investigation and worked well in mini crews, ensuring everyone had a role. After discussions and a debrief, we started to think about writing up our scientific reports and what we would need to include.

How do we see objects? You may just think its all down to our eyes but actually its light reflecting off objects into our eyes. We even explored green standard explaining how we see colour. Today we made our own periscopes to see around corners to further understand light and how we see.

Challenge Crew

In challenge crew we got into groups of 4 and were given one piece of flip chart paper. When miss shouted ’all aboard’ we had to work as a team to ensure we all were stood on the paper so we were not stood in shark invested water! The challenge increasingly got harder as we had to fold our paper in half. Two teams were successfully ’all aboard’ and showed great thinking outside the box!

History of Cameras

Today, we have explored how we know about events from the past where the children spoke about diaries, photos and newspapers as sources of evidence.

We then completed a gallery walk where children had to look at cameras, discuss the design and put them in chronological order.

I was impressed how the children could confidently decide whether a camera had been invented before or after the previous one we discussed.

PE – Let’s balance

A great PE session yesterday as the children were introduced to Gymnastics. The first skill of gymnastics is developing our core strength and being able to balance.

It does appear to be true that children often show now fear as some groups tried to be quite adventurous with their balances.

We ensured we reminded the children about our BE kind Howl – keeping ourselves and each other safe during this session. It also demonstrates a good crew bond as they have to trust their partner to keep them safe.

Litter picking and collecting leaves in EYFS 🗑🍂

This morning during crew, Crew McGlone and Crew Welburn worked together to collect litter and leaves from our playground. We talked about how this would make our playground a safer place for us to play.

Together we collected LOTS of leaves and put them into bin bags – some of us even got to use special litter pickers! Our playground is already looking much better but we are going to continue taking care of our outdoor area so it is a lovely place for us to spend time in.
