Coronation Celebrations in LKS2!

Wow! What a FANTASTIC day we all had on Friday 5th May 2023 at Carcroft Primary School. Throughout the morning each Crew got to share their British Values Home Learning that they had done! In Crew FE we were blown away with David’s creation which was an AMAZING castle and in Crew Thompson Archie and Charlie took the limelight with their Coronation ceramic plates! Some fabulous work has taken place in lots of homes! Thank you to all of those adults at home who supported with this and to the children for bringing them in for us all to share! At lunchtime we enjoyed all sitting together and having an indoor picnic (thanks to the traditional British weather, what Bank Holiday ever passes without some rainfall!?!). In the afternoon, we then enjoyed creating crowns, flags and other Coronation memorabilia that we got to take home with us to help us to continue the celebrations over the weekend!

Reading Champions!

Another week where we have been able to celebrate lots more Reading Champions in school! It was great to see so many children stood up in Achievers Assembly this week being celebrated for their awesome reading at home. It was lovely to see the beaming smiles on children’s faces and to listen to them talk about how proud they felt. Thank you again to those adults at home who are taking the time to listen to their child/ren read very night.

This week we also celebrated the Crews who collectively read the most at home last week. Crew Marsh won it for KS1 and Crew MI for KS2.

Well done to all of our Reading Champions and their amazing adults at home!

Reading Champions!

This week we had lots of children who were awarded for reading at home. It is great to see the increase in numbers and how much children are enjoying reading every night at home. BIG thank you to all of those grown ups at home who are spending the time listening to their child/ren read, the benefits are HUGE! After having a peek at some reading records this week it is also great to see the lovely comments from grown ups!

We also celebrated the Crews who have been collectively reading the most at home, Crew Godley won it for Week 2 and Week 3 in KS1 and Crew Boswell for Week 2 and Crew Shields for Week 3 in KS2.

Well done to all of our amazing readers and parents! I wonder if we might have even more Reading Champions later this week?!

Reading Champions

Last Friday, we started the first of many reading celebrations to come! Lots of children across school were awarded for reading at home. Teachers have been keeping a log of how many children have been reading each week and we really wanted to praise those children (and grown ups!) who have really made the effort to read at home every night! We also celebrated the Crew who have been reading the most at home and last week’s winners (for Week 1) was Crew MI! Well done to all of the fabulous readers! Keep up the great work! I wonder who our Reading Champions will be next week? Could it be you?!

Last week’s Reading Champions!

MTC Testing!

As some of you may be aware, all year 4 pupils now complete a multiplication tables check (MTC). This is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It also enables us, as teachers, to identify those pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

For all year 4 pupils we have added in some extra time during the school week to allow them to practise their times tables, sometimes they are working in a small group with an adult, other times practising times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars, as well as conducting a weekly MTC test.

During SLCs some parents asked how they could help to support their child at home, therefore please find below a list of useful websites:

https://urbrainy.com/mtc

Teachers will also be sending children home with some times table sheets as we know some children prefer to practise in this way.

To make you aware the MTC test is a timed test where children are given 6 seconds to answer a multiplication question. The test comprises of 25 questions and to pass children are expected to achieve 25/25.

Teachers will be sending children home weekly with a slip to indicate what their score was this week and how that compares to their previous score, as well as suggesting timestables that your child needs to work on.

This year the test will be conducted between Monday 5th June and Friday 16th June 2023. This means that we have lots of time to keep practising!

If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to pop into school and either speak to myself (Mrs Elmer) or your child’s class teacher.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Attendance Awards

BIG well done to all of these children who achieved 97% or more for their attendance score in the Autumn term! 🙌 All children were given a certificate, a chocolate reindeer (yummy!) and a HUGE round of applause from all of LKS2! Some of the children who achieved 100% are also very much looking forward to receiving a McDonalds this half term as a celebration of their dedication to not missing a day at school! In addition to these rewards, the parents of those children who achieved 97% or more in Autumn 2 were entered into a special prize draw …to win a £10 voucher to spend at Asda! All names were placed in a ‘hat’ and a name was selected at random! All of LKS2 were pleased to announce that it went to Isaacs mum! Well done!  The hard decision now is who will get to spend it?!… Isaac or his parents! Either way, enjoy! Watch out for more exciting rewards  and prizes  this half term, and remember you have to be in it (school every day!) to win it!
