Crew Hamill have spent some time this week looking at some First News Newspapers. We really enjoyed having some reading for pleasure time and being able to flick through these at our own leisure.

Activate: We looked at an image and created as many inferences as we could.
“I think they are leaving and going to a new planet because of the toxic liquid.”

We have now began our Case Study 2 – physics! We first of all, we watched a video introducing gravity, and we also read an informational text about Sir Issac Newton – the scientist who created the gravity law. We were then given the task to use newton metres to measure the weight of objects in class. We really loved this practical activity to kick start our physics.

We each created a table to recorded our findings:

On Friday afternoon, we got to enjoy a ‘Scotties’ session with Scott himself. Although it was initially freezing cold outside and the tasks set were incredibly challenging… we showed great perseverance and worked well as mini crews to succeed!

Last week, Crew Elmer was lucky again to win the attendance award in our Key Stage Two Community Meeting! This meant that we got to enjoy a yummy biscuit treat and some orange juice! As well as some extra playtime where we enjoyed the sunshine, dancing, singing, playing football and being back on our old playground where we could jump on the tyres and climb on the frame. Can we win it for a fourth time before the end of this half term??!! Well done Crew Elmer! 🙂

This week in school, we have been exploring a new story – Paddington Bear! We started by reading the story and learning all about how the Brown family found Paddington at the train station and took him home to look after him. We thought this was really kind of them! After we had read the story, we talked about the different ways that the Brown family had shown they were kind. They took Paddington to the cafe for some food, they let him have a bath after he got all sticky – although this was a bit of a disaster with shaving foam and bubbles all over the bathroom! Finally, they gave him a nice cup of tea and some marmalade on toast in a comfy armchair. Miss Welburn set us up lots of different experiences so that we could feel like Paddington did in our expedition lessons!

We thought the shaving foam was soft and fluffy, and we know why Paddington got it all over the bathroom – because it was so fun to play with and splat!

The warm water and bubbles in our baths helped us to feel warm, cosy and clean – just like Paddington!

Finally, we got to make marmalade on toast which we thought was delicious! We loved filling up our tummies, and we all agreed that the Brown family were very kind to Paddington.
Last week, Crew F2 worked hard to show that they were a kind crew. We talked about how in Autumn, the leaves fall off the trees and stay on the ground. We decided that we would get our brushes out and clean up some of our outdoor area to make sure that we could see all of our equipment when playing, and to get rid of the rubbish from outside that had blown in off the street. We did a fantastic job sweeping and using the wheelbarrows to collect the leaves!

This week is recycling week! We discussed the term recycling in our mini crews and gave some examples of what we recycle. We then took part in a recycling quiz which we all enjoyed! There was some great collaborative working with some great discussions of answers together.

Crew Godley have activated their new unit of maths, addition and subtraction by playing Uno addition. Our first job was to determine whether we would use one or two digit numbers, challenging ourselves. We then selected uno cards at random to add together. The challenge was to complete as many as we could in 5 minutes! We were all successful whilst showing off our quick fire skills.
