Year 3 have had a fantastic morning of active arithmetic. We worked collaboratively to consolidate some of our skills, such as addition and subtraction. We really loved it and supported our peers well!

Dissecting flowers 🌷
We have started our science lesson today by dissecting a tulip and labelling the parts. We loved this and cannot wait to finish learning about pollination and the life cycle of a flowering plant tomorrow!
Reminder

NSPCC Number Day 2022 returns on Friday 4th February!
At Carcroft, we are really excited to take part in this year’s NSPCC Rocks Number Day. NSPCC Number day aims to raise money to help children across the UK, while having fun with Maths.
This term we have launched Times Tables Rockstars in KS1 and KS2.
As part of the NSPCC Number Day, we would like the children to dress up as their favourite rock star on Friday 4th February. During the day, we will be holding competitions between our crews/year groups. The children will even have the opportunity to challenge their crew and deputy crew leaders.
Donations to support the NSPCC will be greatly received.
Crew MI science lesson
We had a great lesson learning about plants. We actually dissected a flower so we could see the different parts and we labelled them. We learnt about pollination and even acted it out.

LKS2 Experience Day!
As part of Expedition and English, we are going to be writing a letter, as well as a song – keep your eyes peeled for the latter! We worked collaboratively on iPads to be able to see how humans are causing climate change. Check through the images to see how well we worked together!
Crew Shields – 1/2/22
Great team building activity to start our morning after the long weekend.
This was a great opportunity for children to develop their speaking and listening skills but also consolidate their maths knowledge.
Each child had a number on their head and they had to ask their peers questions about their number.
E.g – Is my number a 1, 2, 3 or 4 digit number? Is it a multiple? Is it odd? Etc.

Expeditionary learning so far …🗺🌍🌧🦥
Here’s some snapshots of what we have been getting up to during our new expedition this term Why should we help our planet survive? We are currently engaging in science and geography case studies and the children are loving it!
Athletics tournament
We are all set and ready for the athletics tournament at Campsmount.

Crew MI
Another busy day in crew MI!
Children have created some fantastic writing today. They have thought about their gold standards and applying the features to their writing. Some children have even hit their green standard. They used their chotting ideas from the experience day yesterday to really think about the lenses they were writing through and linked these to their gold standards.
Children have also enjoyed our expedition lesson where we thought more about human and physical features of Geography. Children grouped different pictures explaining their views as to why it was human or physical. From here children used maps and atlases to think more about the continent of South America.
Our HOWL scores have really improved too! Let’s keep this up Crew MI!
Crew Shields – 25/1/22

It was lovely seeing the crew work collaboratively to sort the human and physical features of South America. We were able to hear good discussions/reasoning as to their reasons for it being a human or physical feature.
