Crew Shields – 1/2/22

Great team building activity to start our morning after the long weekend.

This was a great opportunity for children to develop their speaking and listening skills but also consolidate their maths knowledge.

Each child had a number on their head and they had to ask their peers questions about their number.

E.g – Is my number a 1, 2, 3 or 4 digit number? Is it a multiple? Is it odd? Etc.

NSPCC Number Day 2022 returns on Friday 4th February!

At Carcroft, we are really excited to take part in this year’s NSPCC Rocks Number Day. NSPCC Number day aims to raise money  to help children across the UK, while having fun with Maths

This term we have launched Times Tables Rockstars in KS1 and KS2.

As part of the NSPCC Number Day,  we would like the children to dress up as their favourite rock star on Friday 4th February. During the day, we will be holding competitions between our crews/year groups. The children will even have the opportunity to challenge their crew and deputy crew leaders.

Donations to support the NSPCC will be greatly received.

Crew MI

We have had a very busy day in Crew MI!

In reading the children used their inference skills to think about images and how they may relate to our new text. There were some fantastic ideas and children shared their thoughts really well.

In writing we watched part of the film The Lorax. We thought about how the film linked to our guiding question in expedition and we completed a role on the wall thinking about the characters appearance and personality. Again some great ideas!

In expedition we became geographers where we explored compass points and maps. We thought about what countries are on the equator along with exploring the tropics.

In maths we practised our timetables, divided numbers by ten and added decimals. We then moved onto looking at multiples. We worked on varied fluency questions first then challenged ourselves with some reasoning and problem solving questions.

Tomorrow I would like to see our howl score improve, we have pledged for this to be a 3. I really hope we can show this.

Crew Gerrard maths collaboration (25.11.21)

What a great lesson, fully of collaborative learning from Crew Gerrard. Some of our more confident mathematicians wanted to help those who were less confident with multiplying in column method. It was great to see how much confidence grew, as we all worked brilliantly together, to get smarter. Well done Crew Gerrard! 😆

Maths masters ➗

This week we have been showing great perseverance by solving long division with the coin method. Some children even coached to help everyone in Crew to get smart! Teamwork makes the dream work🤩

Maths week in Crew Mcloughlin

Today we were super engaged in our PE lesson and loved every minute! 🏀✖️➗Coach had planned numerous maths problems for us to solve as a crew and set up PE activities for us to work through in order to complete our tasks! We were challenged with number problems to solve, used our maths skills to solve them, and had various physical activities to complete.🧠🏃‍♀️We worked really hard to solve these and got smart in the process.
