Crew Godley mathematicians have been busy comparing numbers and exploring the language ‘greater than, less than and equals too’. We’ve used our crocodile 🐊 hands to help us.

KS1 have been working hard, to get smart in maths. We been exploring place value and how numbers in the number system get bigger and smaller.

Today we took part in a maths quiz in order to consolidate the arithmetic learning we have been doing. We rotated round a carousel of activities looking at both long and short division, long multiplication and adding and subtracting decimals. We worked hard by ensuring we had a positive attitude throughout, we got smart by supporting others to succeed by working collaboratively and we showed kindness by communicating with respect. A great maths lesson today MI 🙂

In Crew Mcloughlin we have been getting smart in arithmetic, learning the coin method to efficiently work out long division. We spoke about how we would leave dividing by 2 digit numbers till the end of tests as they do take time and stamina. Great mathematical work!

In our independent writing today, we have used our amazing planning we generated to write our first plot point. We even visited the quad to do this as the sun was shining 🌞 We used our critique norms to critique each others work. This was really helpful in order to improve our writing and ensure we had hit our targets we had set ourselves. We cannot wait till we are showcasing our final product and our writing is read to our audience – the Carcroft community.

This week in arithmetic we have gone from fearing division to confidently leading our own learning and completing lots of division questions, and even getting them correct 🤩 Then Miss Mcloughlin moved our learning on by challenging us with long division (we used coin method to help us with our times tables to work these division questions out). Very proud moment when the Crew had reflected on their achievements and challenged themselves even further! We’re Getting Smart Crew!
We have openly admitted this morning in celebration crew that we haven’t been going on TTrockstars or trying to improve our timetable knowledge at home, this really will help us with every aspect of arithmetic in Y6 and beyond!

We had a great start to the day this morning when we worked across all of the year 6 crews to do maths. We were looking at the methods for short and long division. We worked really well with one another by helping and supporting each other with these tricky questions.

Today in Maths, we have spent time on ensuring we are secure with place value of numbers up to one million. This involved us saying the number, writing it in words, making it on a place value grid and partitioning it. This is an area we have found difficult at times so it was important to take the time and practice this.
Great fun had by all this morning as practiced our timetables. Children were able to play board games that allowed them to use their timetable knowledge but also demonstrate their be kind howl. So lovely seeing the children working together while also supporting each other to be successful.
Before we started transition week, we got to work on some times tables practise. We took part in a carousel of activities including bingo with Mrs McClare, rapid recall of all our times tables, times tables rockstar work and a number card game. We worked against a timer, pushing ourselves whilst concentrating on each task. Great work Crew MI 🙂

Today in Crew Welburn, we have been exploring place value to 100. We have looked at representing numbers to 100 using base ten, and partitioning numbers using our arrow cards to create addition facts! We are getting really confident now and can’t wait to apply our learning to our fluency and problem solving tasks!
