Crew MI

What a busy day in Crew MI! We started off the day with a team building activity in crew where children had to work together to transport balloons around the room without dropping them! We showed such determination doing this.

We have also started our non chronological report by writing our introduction today. We found this quite challenging at first however we supported each other and are happy with the work we have produced. We used our fix it time well and acted on feedback effectively.

See you all tomorrow!

Crew MI Maths

Today the children got to complete more active maths activities. Children took part in the activities they didn’t complete yesterday. Some visited Crew MI’s money shop and some completed a series of activities in the hall.

Here children are throwing tennis balls into place value boxes then working out the number. Children also worked on their recall of times tables as well as mental addition and subtraction.

We look forward to more activities tomorrow!

Maths week fun in Crew MI!

We have really enjoyed our active maths lessons today! Half of the children visited Crew MI’s grocery shop where they added money amounts and then found change. All children were fully engaged in this activity and loved visiting the shop and handling the items.

The other half of the class moved around a series of activities in the hall. One activity involved throwing tennis balls into place value boxes and then using their place value knowledge to work out the number they had made. Another activity involved jumping, hopping and leaping and children measured the distance they had travelled. They also measured each other’s heights! Another further activity involved throwing a large beach ball around in a circle. When the ball was caught, the children had to add and multiply the numbers by their thumbs. This involved quick recall of our times tables as well as mental addition. The final activity was a puddle jump all based around their 6 and 8 times tables. Children had to chant the 6 times table whilst jumping onto the correct number.

What a fantastic lesson we had today, with so many elements of maths included.

See you all tomorrow 🙂

Maths Week in Crew MI

What a start to maths week! We had a fab magic maths lesson today looking at our 8 times table. We used a counting stick to chant out loud, we worked against other tables chanting and we had competitions between the boys and girls. We then worked with our partner to complete a true and false activity. We then moved onto looking at the biggest and smallest number, selecting the correct answers from groups of numbers. We used our knowledge on place value to do this. Our final activity looked at using a written method for multiplication. We multiplied a 4 digit number by a 1 digit number and some children moved onto multiplying a 2 digit number by another 2 digit number. A super start to maths week! We are all looking forward to setting up our own grocery shop tomorrow, adding and subtracting money and finding change.

Have a lovely evening, see you all tomorrow!

Crew MI 5.11.21

We’ve had a great first week with our crew with lots of hard work to get smart and being kind. We have written our Harry Potter independent writes which we have tried really hard to include all the features we have been working on. We have also started our new case study in expedition… SCIENCE and we have had great fun doing some experiments. We have learnt about condensation and evaporation and how we can change states. We also tested to see what solids would dissolve in liquid.

We also had our first lesson from Scotty’s Heroes where we went into the forest school area and built dens. This was great fun and we can’t wait for our next session.

Our PE days have changed starting from next week and they will now be on a MONDAY and FRIDAY so please ensure children have their kits tomorrow. Also, those children who have been attending Young Voices rehearsals on a Friday, please can you check your emails (dated 8th October) and log on to parent pay to give consent to attend the concert please. All the information is on there but if you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask the office or Mrs Ibbotson.

Our target next week is to work on our active listening skills during lessons. Hope you have all had a good weekend. We look forward to seeing you at parents evening this week.

Y5/6 Netball tournament

We have an exciting opportunity for 9 children from Year 5/6 to take part in Campsmount’s netball tournament. This event will be held on Wednesday 24th November in the afternoon. Letters will be handed out tomorrow. Any one interested will be asked to attend extra training sessions which will be outlined on the letter. If your son/daughter is interested in attending this tournament please can you make them aware that I will be coming around with letters in the morning.

Thank you Miss Marsh 🙂

Crew MI 11th-15th October

Crew MI have had a very busy week! In writing they have continued to work hard on their Harry Potter narrative which is now complete! The progress they have made has been incredible. We have tried really hard to use varied adverbial, relative clause, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions and speech. As the unit has progressed, children have become much more confident when using their purple pen. They have acted on feedback, upleveled different sentences and edited their work. We are extremely proud of the writing produced.

In maths we have continued to work on our addition and subtraction skills. We have worked on using a written method and tried to solve problems where their are missing numbers. This caused us some challenges however we were resilient and never gave up. We also worked extremely well with ours peers to support each other when answering these problems.

In Reading we set up a conscience alley where we thought about positive and negatives about a topic. The children really enjoyed this and came up with some great ideas for debate!

We hope you all have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you all back in school in 2 weeks.
