We’ve been very lucky since XP first opened and as the Trust has grown over the last ten years, to be able to welcome Ron Berger to our schools. Ron, the CAO of Expeditionary Learning (EL) in the US, has visited us several times, sharing with us his knowledge, energy and wisdom.Â
Always supportive and inspiring, Ron has now, after a two week stay, just returned home. His time here has included visits to all of our schools, a well received and inspirational talk with our staff and chatting with our students and hearing their stories.Â
He also travelled to Scotland to visit our brilliant partners at The Wood Foundation and the educators they support in the Aberdeen area. Their school teams have been regular visitors to XP Doncaster on our delegate days for the last four years.Â
Last but not least, Ron joined colleagues on their induction in Derbyshire, sharing moment by moment with them the experience of developing Crew and fellowship.Â
Renowned as an educator and catalyst for innovation and compassion in education all over the world, we hope it won’t be long before we can welcome Ron back again.Â

Today we completed our 5th draft using charcoal to perfect our technique before doing it on our final product. However this time we used the technique to draw London houses. We are definitely getting good at charcoal in Crew Marsh!
We have been working really hard to understand out fact families and how addition and subtraction are the inverse of each other. We used our special whiteboard to help us to understand the relationship between numbers. Finally we even played a game and created our own fact families.
In Year 1, we have added untuned percussion instruments to the song we have been learning ‘The Menu Song’. We listened carefully to instructions and found the beat to the song and first showed this by clapping our hands in time. We then moved on to finding the beat with the percussion instruments, and we even pushed ourselves to try singing at the same time! It was tricky, but we are already looking forward to practising again next week and getting even better! ✨
Today we have taken our song ‘Tony Chestnut’ and looked at how to play a call and response melody on the glockenspiel. We made sure that we knew the sequence of the notes we needed to play and practised repeatedly. Miss McGlone started the piece by playing the ‘call’ part of the melody and we then played the ‘response’ part as a crew. We showed great resilience when practising to perform together and gave critique on what we did well and what we needed to do better next time. The end product sounded amazing and we can’t wait to get even better next week and add in singing whilst we are playing too! ✨
Thanks again for coming to read, the children love spending time reading their RWI books.
Today we completed a kahoot quiz to really test how much we have learnt during case study 1. It was great to see the kids really engaged in their learning and remembering what they have learnt. Our top 3 children were 3 – Shelby, 2 – Charlie and 1 – Lydia. Well done guys! 🎉👏🏻
In our expedition lessons this week, we have found out lots of information about Roman towns. We focussed on six Roman towns in England: Londinium, Eboracum, Viriconium, Isca Augusta, Deva, Aquae Sulius. We used a map to help us locate where the Romans settled in the United Kingdom and then identified the main uses for these towns.
