Crew Gerrard weekly review (7-11/6/21)

We have had a much improved week in Crew Gerrard, which is great for our first week back after half term. It’s been a busy one and I’m pleased to see a desire to learn. Crew Gerrard know that there is not much time left until they are Year 6s and they are keen to be ready to hit the ground running in the new academic year.

In writing, we have been collaborating with each other. It’s been great fun to watch Crew Gerrard work together and think of interesting vocabulary, which will add to their writing. They have loved learning about our new and creepy video Road’s End and I am sure all of the hard work will pay off. I can’t wait to read them Crew Gerrard!

In Maths, we have been learning about perimeter. This has been a fun challenge for Crew Gerrard, as they started off the week by measuring and are now confident in finding the perimeter for rectilinear shapes. It’s been fantastic to see the children working hard to challenge their learning, in order to get smart!

Our art sessions have been fun and required patience, as Crew Gerrard worked on their independent pieces of art. I have been impressed by how resilient the children have been, as we have had to complete a couple of drafts. The effort has certainly been worth it and I am pleased with how our sketches are looking!

As I have said, this week has been much improved by our Crew. We have had a really solid week. We all need to ensure that we are working as part of our Crew, so that we are helping push each other on. Our HoWL average for the week was 2.6 and I want to see that rise next week. Enjoy your weekend! 😆

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 11.6.2021

Highlight of the week:

We have had a lovely first week back in Crew Welburn, and the sunshine has made it even better as we’ve been able to move some of our expedition lessons outside! We have worked really well on all of our HOWLs this week, and our scores have been amazing! We’ve really impressed our teachers in expedition as well as we’ve started to pull together our pieces of work for our final products. Take a sneak peak at the pictures to see what we have been up to! 🖌🎨🖼

This week, we’ve also been trying extra hard to be kind, and the crew pointed this out on Tuesday as they praised each other at the end of the day for playing so nicely together in the afternoon. This was really lovely to hear from the children and I am sure it will continue throughout the rest of this half term. We used crew time on Tuesday to build different relationships in our crew by working with someone we do not usually work with. We had to use our communication skills and trust to guide each other around the obstacle course wearing blindfolds!

Euro Football Sticker Book

We have been kindly given a limited number of Panini sticker books for the Euros.

If anyone would like one of these, they will be available from the front of school tomorrow afternoon on a first come, first served basis until they have all gone.

Non-school uniform Friday

Hi all,

Crew Boswell and Crew Marsh both won a spin on the wheel for getting great HOWLS the last week before half term, so tomorrow will be a non-school uniform day for both crews.

Thank you!

This week in the XP trust…

A little bit delayed but here is some beautiful work from the XP Trust, the week before the half term break. As always, the children have worked incredibly hard.

It also features our logo rebrand video too, for anyone who may not yet have seen this.

Happy watching.

Crew Shields – 28/5/21

Happy half term! It seems the weeks are absolutely flying by as we near the end of this academic year.

Crew Shields have been extremely busy this week as we have continued with our expedition. There has been lots of collaborative learning as they worked towards creating a healthy lunchbox option. It was lovely hearing them discuss and reason their decisions.

Fractions have really got out brains working this week as we started looking at equivalent fraction, comparing and ordering fractions. The children were extremely resilient even when they found some aspects tricky. A fabulous skill to be developing as the children get Year 4 ready.

We ended the week with soak the teacher, thankfully this was Mr Longley. This was a reward for the children from winning a spin on the shell for their howls.

Thank you for your continued support this half term, it is really appreciated. Have a great half term and keep safe.

Crew Elmer Final Blog 😥

The day has finally come to write Crew Elmer’s final blog after our final day together…😥 However, we have had a lovely last day altogether 💕

Today’s star moment ☀ :

Today’s star moment has got to be the whole day! However, some moments that stood out were making pizzas 🍕, designing biscuits 🍪 and pass the parcel 🎁.

It has been an absolute pleasure teaching Crew Elmer and I really will miss all of them! Fingers crossed I will be back after half term and will get to spend some time with them all before my maternity leave starts! Have an amazing and well deserved half term and I will see you all after half term! 😊

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 28.5.2021

Highlight of the week:

Wow! What a week we have had in Crew Welburn. I am amazed by the children’s writing this week as we’ve begun writing our fact files for our final product to display at Flamingo Land. We’ve used all of our knowledge from expedition lessons to build sentences around giraffes and zebras, ready to send off for the final product. We also shared our fact files from farm animals with Foundation Stage today, using our big, clear voices. We hope they learnt a lot from them!

This week, we’ve also been doing lots of team building, communication activities in crew time. We have played listening games where we have to listen and clap rhythms, and we’ve used our communication skills to get ourselves into height order.

HOWL Heroes:

Work Hard: Harriet

Get Smart: Harry

Be Kind: Frankie

My learning legend for this week is Darcie Fraser. Darcie has been a superstar in maths over the last half term. She has been working really hard with her addition and subtraction number sentences, and in her mental maths for her number recognition, place value and number formation. I am really impressed with how smart she has got! Keep it up Darcie!

HOWL Score: 3.1 Well done Crew Welburn!

This week’s HOWL average: 3.1 Keep it up Crew Welburn!

Crew Wilson Weekly Review: 28.5.2021

We did it! We made it to the end of another half term, and we have had another jam-packed week in Crew Wilson!

Highlights of the Week:

Expedition: We have continued with our expedition work, investigating how animals adapt to their habitats. This week we have had a closer look at the continent of Africa, exploring the different animals that live there. We have completed fact files and food chains for Lions, Zebras, Leopards and Giraffes, and learned lots of new facts! Did you know that Giraffes have a hairy purple tongue that helps protect them when they eat thorny leaves? We also began to plan a part of our final product, practicing colour mixing and pointillism to create some beautiful work!

Maths: We have been practicing number bonds to 20 and exploring addition and subtraction fact families. We had to look very carefully at the numbers to make sure we answered the question correctly, it was quite tricky but by the end of the week be smashed it!

Crew: We have been working hard in mini crews this week, practicing our communication skills through different activities. We wore blindfolds and had to guide a partner round the classroom using directional language and worked hard by giving clear instructions. We worked in teams to get across the big trim-trail on the muga pitch, making sure we were being kind and cheering each other one! We also played the telephone game, where we had to pass a phrase around the circle and see if it changed along the way – we ended up with some very funny results! And today we were very excited to see the big reveal of our new school logo and had lots of praise for the final design! We loved how they used the rainbow colours and the miners wheel from our designs, and cannot wait to wear our new uniform in the new school year!

Howl Average: We have ended the week on a 3.7, a very good score which reflects how hard we have worked this week! We’ve smashed our learning goals this week, let’s keep it up for our last half term in Year One!

Learning Legend: Crew Wilson’s learning legend this week is Daisy. Daisy has gone above and beyond in her learning, not just recently but consistently since the beginning of the year. Daisy always demonstrates her Howl’s in both the classroom and the playground and is a wonderful asset to her crew. I can always rely on Daisy to work hard in every lesson, she always has her hand up to answer questions, takes her time to make sure her work is beautiful and never needs reminders to keep on track with her learning. Daisy is also smashing her reading goals and is regularly rewarded for her effort in home reading tasks. Keep up the brilliant work Daisy, we are all so proud of you!
