In Crew Ramsay, we have been fulfilling our pledges in writing by accessing our ‘Support Station’ for the scaffolding we need. We all know what our areas for development are and what resources can support us whilst we become great. We even go and collect them before we start writing. Here we are, supporting ourselves to become our best! Check us out popping to the Support Station to collect our bits!
Crew Ramsay have been working in groups with our new student teacher, Miss Bagworth to create poppy art for Remembrance Day. We had 2 minutes of silence to honour the fallen and we celebrated by making paper tissue poppies. Here we are getting crafty and talking about our ‘Be Kind’ HOWL for this significant event.
Crew Ramsay headed down to crew Barber to narrate our very own character-driven narratives to a real audience! We took so much pride in our work and loved performing as storytellers. Here we are in action…
Crew Ramsay and Crew Mcloughlin have been buddying up for weeks now to share stories and bond over books! We absolutely love our quality time with our reading buddies. Here we are sharing stories.
Today, we acted out the story Little Red Riding Hood. We worked in groups to decide rolls, rehearse the story map and interact in character. We had so much fun and cannot wait to get writing the story next…
We have loved our learning about primary and secondary colours this week! We used powder paints to make primary colours and then mixed these together to make secondary colours. The children absolutely loved listening to calm music as we got busy. What a lovely Wednesday!
We have moved on to our next computing unit which is understanding an algorithm. An algorithm is a clear set of instructions that we give to a computer to fulfil a task that we need it to do. Unfortunately, if the instructions aren’t clear then the computer will become confused. To help with their understanding, the children had to help Miss Shields make a jam sandwich but unfortunately this didn’t go to plan. The instructions Miss Shields received resulted in questionable jam sandwiches.
First, she was told to spread the butter on the bread then spread the jam on the bread. So children were quite surprised when this happened.
Another set of instructions was to get out the bread, get out the butter and get out the jam but children weren’t happy when I plopped these on the table and not the actual bread.
After a couple of failed attempts, children refined their instructions, however, they forgot to tell Miss Shields to use a knife so they were quite surprised when she spread the butter and jam with her hand. They then remembered to tell me that I needed to use a knife.
By following the unclear instructions, children were able to start understanding that an algorithm has to be clear instructions so that a computer knows exactly what to do and doesn’t get confused.
In today’s expedition lesson, the children spoke about the role of a nurse to which they were shocked a nurse can be either male or female as many of them thought all nurses were female. The children were given scenarios and used their acting skills alongside a few props to recreate the scenario with their partner. Lots of discussions were happening alongside lots of great acting!
This week we tried something new in class, the life skill, cutting food with a knife and fork. The children did so well and knew to use different pressure for hard and soft food. They even tried some new foods, like Kiwi, which tasted ‘sour’ and noticed the different taste with red and green pepper, the red one was ‘sweeter’.
Today we made our very own Dream Jar from the book The BFG. We loved getting creative using different mediums like glitter and sequins. We talked about what glitter could represent in a dream, glitter can mean happy and exciting , dark colours can mean sad or angry dreams, we call them nightmares.
