Old clothes – final product

On Monday, the children will be recorded reading their poems for the final product. Some have requested that they do a voiceover but some would like to be in the video dressed as a miner.

For these children we have suggested they bring an old white or dark plain T-shirt or shirt (even if it’s from an older sibling/parent) that you wouldn’t mind us putting a few rips in and rubbing coal over it. We’d like to give the video an authentic look. They could also wear a dark coloured waistcoat and a flat cap if they can get access to them.
Children would need to bring these into school on Monday morning.

We’re looking forward to sharing the final product when it’s complete.
Thank you

Swimming – Year 5

Just a reminder that tomorrow and next Friday, children will need to bring shorts and T-shirt in addition to their normal swimming stuff. The shorts and T-shirt will be getting wet so it’s essential they have dry clothes.

I would suggest wearing the shorts and T-shirt over their swimming costumes and bringing their Pe kit in their bags to change into after swimming.
Thank you

What is a flood? 💧

Today in our expedition lesson, we discussed what a flood is and explained why floods happen. A flood is a type of extreme weather. Flooding happens when there is heavy rainfall in a short amount of time. We identified the human and physical factors that cause floods such as deforestation, using concrete to build and steep slopes. We created a poster that informed us on what a flood is and the different causes of flooding. 🌧 💧

Poetry

Today, Crew Shields have been practicing reading their poems aloud in preparation for them being recorded on a Monday. We have each other critique and explained the importance of speaking in a clear voice, at a reasonable pace and adding some expression in. We’ll have more time to practice to each other and in front of the class so when Monday comes, we’ll be ready to smash it.

Christianity

In Lesson 2, we learnt about the various events that are held in churches and we built background knowledge around some of these. We used the internet to research and made an anchor chart to present back to the rest of the class.

Crew Mc has found a passion for RE, (also know as Religion education) as we all enjoy it, especially today. Ethan even joked that RE stood for ‘Really Exciting’ 😃. First off, we started with an entry ticket, trying to remember what we watched about a 11 year old boy named Nathan. Next, we listened to some hymns they sing while worshiping. Max and Brooklyn sang along with Miss and some of us recognised the song.

Then Miss came round with various types of bread: the bread represented Jesus’s flesh/body. The instructions were to thank someone in your life every time you ate a piece of bread – we filled out a HoWL card for these special people we appreciate in our lives. Miss had a smile on her face when she had received one on her desk💕

While eating, we watched a couple videos about ‘The Last Supper’ where Jesus said about how the wine represented blood and the bread represented his body. You might already know this but do you know what a holy communion is? A holy communion a ritual commemoration of Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples. We finished with a de-brief to note down all our new learning to ensure it sticks!
