Crew MW have spent the morning baking our gingerbread men to sell on Friday! We will be raising money to buy some new story books for the children in EYFS, for the school library and to give out in the local community. We measured, poured, sifted, stirred and rolled to create our gingerbread men, talking about what we could see and what we could smell. We worked really well in our small groups to complete our baking and we had lots of fun!
Today we have learnt which animals live in Antarctica and which animals live in the arctic circle. We found out that penguins live in Antarctica and the bottom of the world and polar bears live in the Arctic at the top of the world. We organised other animals like reindeers, killer whales and elk’s and seals.
Today in challenge Crew we had to pass the hoop along the line without letting go of ours peers hands, this was so tricky as to make it even more challenging we had to do it within one minute. This was easy! So we challenge ourselves to do it within 30 seconds! We got so quick that in the end it only took us 12 seconds! Great crew work, Crew Godley!
Today, Riley was chosen for our Scottie’s Hero for showing determination and resilience! Great work, Riley!
In Crew Shields this afternoon, we have been sketching images based around global warming which will be used towards our final product.
Our entry ticket today allowed us to think about differences between two maps and we also gave our own personal opinions about the map we preferred. We explored each map together, thinking about what we can see. We thought about why the author may have chosen to show the maps in a different way and we voiced reasons for this. We used our inference skills to try and work out which part of Africa we would be looking at and thought about what we noticed about certain places. From here we read the text using a partner read, an independent read then we used a chorus read. As we read we explored specific vocabulary, unpicked phrases and discussed what we had read. We then looked at our reasons to read which showed us we had taken in what we had just read. Our exit ticket pulled all of our learning together. We drew a picture and described East Africa 🙂
Today we took part in an extended crew due to the children being off school yesterday. Firstly, we took part in our challenge crew which was just the start we needed! It was full of laughs and giggles and really set us up for the day! We then moved onto the caring crew we missed yesterday where we continued to think about emotions. One of the activities allowed us to discuss our feelings on swimming which is something we will start after the Easter holidays. This was a valuable discussion and allowed us all to voice our feelings about it.
Today we critiqued a crew members habitat section of their non chronological report. We thought about sentences where target grids had been used then we unpicked and redrafted sentences that needed to be better. We all worked well in mini crews to do this before giving feedback to the whole crew. We then applied what we had learnt to our own work, editing and redrafting our own sentences. We are getting much more confident in this part of the writing sequence.
In our maths lesson today we also explored repeating pattern with 2d shapes. Everyone worked really hard but huge shoutout to Eveah, Charlotte and Teddy who smashed the challenge I set them too. Great work!
