Design and Technology in Crew MI

Today we continued our expedition lessons by looking at tool safety and thinking about some of the equipment and materials we will use to create our photo frames. We all had a go at using a saw to cut a piece of wood. We then used sand paper to ensure the sides of our wood were smooth. We also used wood glue to join some of the wood together. We evaluated the process thinking about praises, notices and wonders. We are all looking forward to creating our own photo frames during the rest of the week.

Research in Crew MI

Today we started to think about our next piece of writing, a monologue. We discussed what this was and looked at different examples, unpicking features. We then decided which animal we would base our monologue on then started researching facts on our animals appearance, diet, habitat and why it is classed as vulnerable. We are looking forward to continuing our research tomorrow!

LKS2 testing surfaces (18.3.22) 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

Today, LKS2 have been testing the surfaces of different materials. We asked the question of how far a toy car could travel on different surfaces and which was best for going the furthest distance. This was a great lesson that had a great buzz to it. The children enjoyed it and are loving their experiments at the moment. Well done on a great lesson guys!

Y5/6 dodgeball tournament

It has been a pleasure taking the Y5/6 children to the dodgeball tournament this afternoon. The children really excelled themselves with their dodgeball skills and worked really hard in every game. It was great to see their team spirit! We came 4th out of 10 teams, massive well done carcroft! 🙌🏼

Writing in Crew MI

Today we have continued to write our persuasive letters. Children are working so hard to ensure they are using their target grids to support their writing and we are really impressed with the quality of what they are producing. We should finish our letters tomorrow and are looking forward to reading them out loud to each other. Here are some examples…

LKS2 Recording Day (15.3.22)🎸🎵🎶

LKS2 were lucky to visit XP today, as they recorded their song. We have been working on this during our music Case Study, as part of the final product that the Trust are making. This includes all Year 3 and 4 pupils writing, singing and recording their own parts of the song. The children sang beautifully and should proud of their efforts today!

Keep an eye out for the final product – we’ll share it as soon as it is fully completed. For now, enjoy some snaps of the recording session!

Reading helps us to better understand the world in which we live

Today I spent the morning with Mrs Ibbotson, our Reading Leader, looking at our Reading Strategy in action. It was a pleasure to see children so engaged in their Reading lessons across Year 2 to Year 6, whereby we spotted pupils practising their reading aloud, in order to develop their fluency so that they can then better understand their text. They were engaging in texts which would support them to better answer their guiding question for their current expedition. In some classes, the children were answering questions about the text and their Teachers were checking their understanding using protocols such as whip around and cold call. I particularly loved being in Crew Boswell, where they were being challenged by Mr B to further develop their oracy skills by providing a detailed response when asked a question. This session really made my day, to hear our pupils articulating their ideas with such elegance. Finally, I loved seeing so much collaboration in nearly every class including lots of paired reading and supporting one another to answer questions. Another lovely morning where I left feeling proud of what we are achieving together as a school.

Dodgeball tournament 9/3/22

Today we took the Y1/2 to a dodgeball tournament at Campsmount, what a pleasure the children were! They had such an amazing time and it was great to see the children being competitive.
