I have been really impressed with our Henri Matisse artwork because it has been tricky with it being smaller pieces and designs to create. Well done Crew Marsh!
Today we continued with our collage skills to create our Art work in the style of Henri Matisse, we created animals which Noah invited onto his ark. We thought carefully about the colours and shape of the materials we used to create some beautiful pieces! We were very proud!
This week we have been artists, exploring the collage techniques of a Henri Matisse, a French artist.
Firstly, we had a gallery walk and shared our notices and wonders about his work. We collected ideas and created a giraffe in preparation for our final piece where we will collage different animals to place in Noah’s Ark! We thought carefully about how how we could manipulate materials to create shapes.
Today, nursery enjoyed creating some messy art outside using clingfilm and paint. We loved using the different brushes and sponges to create different pictures.
Today we began the art part of our case study by looking at the French artist Henri Matisse.

Today we have been introduced to our new artist, Herni Matisse – he is a collage artist using different shapes and colours. I was impressed with everyone’s collage sticking skills and ripping them smaller to fit.
Finally we were able to sample the hot chocolate that the Mayans would have had. This is made from cacao beans, milk, chilli and honey. The drink is quite bitter therefore not to everyone’s liking.
On Friday afternoon, we made tortilla wraps and had these with the tuna, avocado, chilli and lettuce. Again everyone gave them a good try and some really enjoyed them and asked for more. We looked forward to developing these skills later in this expedition.
On Thursday afternoon, we took part in blind food tasting based on foods the Maya would have eaten. Some of us were a little apprehensive about this due to the unknown. The foods we tried were avocado, chilli, lettuce, dark chocolate and tuna. As you can imagine some of these were a hit and others not so much. However, everyone gave them a try and tried to push themselves outside of their comfort zones.
