Crew Hamill are working hard in DT lessons, learning everything they need to be able to cook and bake Mayan dishes ready for their presentation of learning. We started with our dessert – cupcakes! We’ve had a practice run at following the instructions and using the right amount of ingredients to create some vanilla cupcakes topped with buttercream!
In our expedition lesson, we got creative and made some buns. We used a range of baking skills to make the vanilla buns! We had so much fun and can’t wait to bake the next dish tomorrow!
A huge thank you to the grown ups who joined us for our EYFS Celebration of Learning. We loved creating collages of pirate hats and mermaid tails with you, and we were really proud to give out our final products – bin stickers to encourage recycling within our local community.
Following on from our colour mixing lesson yesterday we began painting our Rangoli patterns.
We used lots of different colours to make sure they were bright and colourful.

Today we created our Islamic tiles. We have been exploring the work of William Morris, a British designer who used lots of patterns in his artwork. We were lucky to hear from our very own expert, Mr Hull, about William Morris’ art work as he has visited his house to have a look at some very exciting pieces. We used techniques previously taught to design our own tiles which will have a very special home in a local mosque.
Today in our DT lesson, we learnt about the different cooking techniques and then had a go at following a recipe to make a fruit salad. We learnt how to hold a knife safely and ensured that we washed our hands before we started. We then ensured we tidied and washed up after ourselves. Finally, we went outside in the sunshine and enjoyed eating it.

Some of us started working with water colours this afternoon in our art session. We used water colours to paint our own bees 🙂 We were all super focussed and loved doing this after a morning of assessments.
The other half of MI worked independently on some sketching. Children used a step by step clip to create their own drawing of a bee. There were some great first drafts 🙂 We can’t wait for our final versions!
