Crew Colclough

Yesterday in Crew Colclough, we began our independent writing. We have created our own historical narratives based on the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’. Today we will move onto editing and publishing our own stories.

LKS2 Writing Planning

Today in Crew Colclough, we started to plan our own historical narratives based on ‘Escape from Pompeii’. Pupils drew their own text maps and then orally rehearsed their own versions of the story.

Beautiful written work in Crew Colclough

We are so proud of this young man. He has created two amazing paragraphs over the last couple of days. His effective word choice is particularly impressive. However, the reason I felt the need to blog this today was because of his expressive reading. We have been working on our fluency skills and today, Henry today demonstrated excellence in this.

Year 3/4 football tournament

Today 5 pupils from both year 3 and year 4 headed out for the afternoon to compete in a football tournament. They were one of 10 teams, unfortunately we didn’t place in the top 3 but I was so impressed with the children’s efforts, resilience and sportsmanship. Out of the 10 teams, which was over 100 children in total, one of our year 4 pupils was given a medal for his stand out sportsmanship. We were all so proud of him, what a great achievement! Here’s a few photos to showcase our fantastic afternoon!

Independent timetable game

In computing today, children were able to build on their learning from last week by building the code for a timetable game independently. This allowed them to apply their skills from this unit of computing and demonstrate their understanding for coding.

Roald Dahl Day

Miss Trunchbull! Our Year 4 pupils have been putting their creative skills to the test! We have created ‘Wanted Posters’ for the infamous Miss Trunchbull! With their vivid imaginations and artistic flair, they captured her larger-than-life personality (and not in a good way!).

Variables

Year 4 has continued their knowledge of variables today by starting to make a timetables quiz. Our session today was a guided session as it required lots of thinking power. We worked side by side to build the code, however, next week children will get an opportunity to work independently on building the code.

Roman Gods and Goddesses in History

Today in Crew Colclough we learned that Romans believed in more than one God/ Goddess and we started to explore 8 of them in today’s lesson. We had to move around the room and copy the name and role of the God/Goddess onto our sheet. Mrs Atherton then challenged us by asking us to memorise 3 of them and their roles and then copy these into our books using Capital Letters for Nouns and beautiful handwriting. We worked incredibly hard today to remember this information.

Making variables

In computing this weel, year 4 were continuing with variables but this week they were making variables and adding to the code we used last week. Once they got the hang of it, children started to expand their maths games by adding additional questions to the code. Children really had to grapple with this and be resilient to ensure that they were successful.
