Experience day!

Today we started our new writing block with an experience lesson. First, we completed a jigsaw of the front cover and blurb of our new book “Flood”. Then, the children took part in a silent conversation. They annotated the photos from the book with what they noticed, how they might feel and what actions might be happening. The children came up with some fantastic ideas and I was blown away with what they noticed! They even came up with some interesting wonders based on the pictures in the book! I can’t wait to see the ideas they come up with when we start to write our narrative!

Fiction or non fiction?

Today in our book talk reading lesson we looked at the features of fiction and non fictions books. We worked in pairs to group the features and had a fantastic discussion around them. We linked them to previous books we have read and our class shared read.

Crew Challenge – Chess

This morning for our crew challenge, Mrs Rhodes introduced us to a new game. The children had to work as 2 groups. They stood on the line and choose a crew leader. It was the crew leaders job to instruct the rest of the crew so they had to listen carefully to their instructions. They could move forward or back but had to move as a group. When the other group was close they could charge. The objective was the tag as many of the other team as possible and get them to join the opposite team. This was a lovely activity as it showed us who were risk takers or who like to play it on the safe side. Not only were they building crew but having good fun as well.

Reading continues in MI

Today in our reading lesson we consolidated our learning with an entry ticket. Children had to write a post code home as the main character thinking about his feelings as he arrived at Camp Green Lake. We even tried to include some Y6 writing features! We then read the next part of the text before completing a crossword activity around vocabulary. Finally we worked in mini crews on some book talk questions where we used the text effectively to support our answers. There was some great text marking in MI today which helped us when skimming and scanning for answers.

Pie charts in MI

Today we explored pie charts in our maths lesson. There were some great discussions on how we go about answering some of the more challenging reasoning and problem solving questions. I really praise the collaboration from everyone 🙂

The Man on the Moon 🌕🚀

Today we started our second case study and our next core text ‘The Man on the Moon’.

The story who is about Bob, an astronaut, who works on the moon. In a morning he has a slice of toast and a cup of tea so what better way to start our day!
