Today we started our new book ”The Rhythm of the Rain”. First, we completed a jigsaw of the front cover and then we unpicked the title and blurb. We had a fantastic class discussion where we identified the audience, purpose and genre of the book. We are so excited to start and read this book tomorrow. 📖📚
During music today, the children have been learning about different notes in music. We’ve learned about the crotchet, minim, quavers, semi quavers and semibreve.
We spent some time clapping rhythms to help use understand the difference in the notes. Children then had to work in small groups to compose their own rhythms using some of the difference notes before performing to the rest of the class. They did a great job with these. Our entry ticket today allowed us to think about all the characters in the story so far and and what we know about them. After working in mini crews we made a class anchor chart on our findings. We enjoyed reading out loud again today using a read around the robin, an echo read and enjoyed reading with our partner. We text marked as we read, really thinking about the vocabulary which we unpicked. We voiced our thoughts and opinions about some of the parts of the story and this helped when unpicking some book talk questions. Our exit ticket challenged our knowledge on what we had read. We had to summarise Stanley’s morning (the main character in our story) in no more than 50 words. Children shared their summaries and showed their understanding of the text.
Y6 took part in a relationships workshop with the school nursing team, part of zone 5-19. They were able to discuss different relationships, voicing their opinions and thoughts. This was a valuable experience for our Y6’s before they move onto secondary school.
In Crew Marsh, today we landed on the moon!
However, the moon was really messy, so we had to clean it up: we hoovered, we swept, we picked things off the floor, tidied tables and organised books.
The moon is now looking clean but we are feeling very tired and hungry after all our hard work.

On Friday, we have had the chance to participate in a life saving opportunity; an emergency first aid course. Check us out in action!
In crew, we completed an assault course in our outdoor area. We absolutely LOVED IT!
On Friday a mysterious rocket appeared in Crew Godley. We don’t know where it is going or who it belongs too 👽🛸 We can’t wait to explore where it may be going! Could it be one of the eight planets in our solar system we have been exploring……..
