This morning, we worked in pairs to play table football and other challenges. It was quite tricky to control but then we kept on practising.

In our story ’The Man on the Moon’ it is Bob’s job to make sure the moon is clean and tidy. CrewRobson made sure our playground was clean and tidy too with a spot of litter picking! Great work crew!
This weekend Rosie enjoyed spending time with Mila and Miss Holdsworth. They read books, sang songs and even went to a bbq! I wonder who Rosie will meet this week?
This morning, we started our school week by developing our staff crew. At XP Trust we work hard to build crew with our pupils but also within our staff team too. We started the week talking about the highlight of our weekend with staff from other phases as we don’t often get enough time to mingle across phases.
Then we paired up and played the communication game. We had to describe the picture in front of us to our partner who could not see it. We thought carefully about our use of language and how to explain things to our partner so that they would understand. We managed a quick debrief to discuss what barriers we faced when completing the activity before dashing off to greet our crews ready for another fun filled week.
It was a lovely start to the week, with lots of smiles all round.
We enjoyed lots of chanting of our timestables in our magic maths sessions today. Then we did some quick recall on whiteboards, really pushing our pace. We recapped our knowledge of place value before taking part in a loop card activity. This involved quick thinking and working out answers quickly to see who had the answer to the question.
We then did a carousel of arithmetic, thinking about our pace and ensuring we remembered all the methods we had been taught. We worked with a partner for the carousel and there was some great coaching taking place. This was a pleasure to see where children were coaching children through the different methods needed whilst offering support at the same time.
Today we started our new book ”The Rhythm of the Rain”. First, we completed a jigsaw of the front cover and then we unpicked the title and blurb. We had a fantastic class discussion where we identified the audience, purpose and genre of the book. We are so excited to start and read this book tomorrow. 📖📚
During music today, the children have been learning about different notes in music. We’ve learned about the crotchet, minim, quavers, semi quavers and semibreve.
We spent some time clapping rhythms to help use understand the difference in the notes. Children then had to work in small groups to compose their own rhythms using some of the difference notes before performing to the rest of the class. They did a great job with these. Check them out for yourselves…
I am so proud of Ameena, she followed every instruction to produce her beautiful Peter Thorpe artwork. I can’t wait to see your painting next!
So today in xp outdoors the children have really enjoyed making their own bracelet
Our entry ticket today allowed us to think about all the characters in the story so far and and what we know about them. After working in mini crews we made a class anchor chart on our findings. We enjoyed reading out loud again today using a read around the robin, an echo read and enjoyed reading with our partner. We text marked as we read, really thinking about the vocabulary which we unpicked. We voiced our thoughts and opinions about some of the parts of the story and this helped when unpicking some book talk questions. Our exit ticket challenged our knowledge on what we had read. We had to summarise Stanley’s morning (the main character in our story) in no more than 50 words. Children shared their summaries and showed their understanding of the text.
