LKS2 Celebration of Learning 🌍🎶🌊⛰🌋🏫

This afternoon marked the end of our LKS2 Expedition, ‘Earth Shattering Events’. To celebrate all of the learning that had taken place we invited parents, grandparents and other family members to join us for a special celebration in the school hall. Children sang songs, performed poems and shared interesting facts that they had learnt about earth shattering events such as, earthquakes, volcanoes and floods. The children were amazing and we were all super proud of them! 👏

Thank you so much to all of the grown ups who attended to support their child/ren, it was a great turnout! Also if you didn’t get the opportunity to buy one of our celebratory baskets that includes the book that the children created as part of their Autumn Expedition, then these will be available to purchase from Crew Thompson after school tomorrow!

EYFS Sports Day

What an amazing morning! Crew McGlone and Crew Welburn were absolutely fabulous during our Sports Day and the amount of grown ups that joined us was wonderful! The children were so well behaved and really enjoyed themselves. The weather managed to hold out and the rain held off – wahoo! Thank you so much to all the grown ups who came to share this lovely event with us, your support is very much appreciated!

Crew Robson Final Word

As we approach the end of the year, and our wonderful Yr2s are about to take on one final challenge – their Final Word presentations!

Thank you to those who have already signed up to come and share your child’s presentation. If you haven’t signed up or require another time please let me know and I’ll try my best to accommodate you. The children have worked really hard on their presentations and are excited to share them with you.

Transition – Crew MW (continued)

More pictures of our extremely exciting day on Tuesday!

Because we usually only stay for a morning session, we got to enjoy our first proper dinner time as we stayed for a FULL DAY for our transition! We thought our lunch was delicious and did an amazing job of lining up at the servery and we were very polite when talking to our lovely kitchen staff.

Transition day – Crew Shields

Such a lovely day spent as our new crew. We’ve completed some crew challenges while also getting to know each other. Children made name cards as there were lots of new faces for me but I think I’d remembered them all by the end of the day. We’ve played chess, finding someone in the crew who like marvel films for instance, some inference and predictions about a story which lead to us discussing the moral of the story. This afternoon, children had to work together to get into height order and birthday order before finishing off with one partner drawing and the other explaining what they had to draw. ✍️

We discussed the importance of crew and some of the expectations for next year. We’ll be able to get these properly embedded when we return after the summer break.

I’m looking forward to a great year with year 4 and I’ve every faith they will be amazing. Exciting times ahead. 😊🤩

Crew Robson Transition Day

We started the day with a crew challenge to see which pair could build the best structure out of marshmallows and tooth picks to support a hard boiled egg!

We then went outside to complete a I spy nature hunt and enjoyed exploring in forest school.

The children voted for which book they would like me to read at snack time then we enjoyed some yoga!

Crew MW’s transition day!

Crew MW have had a fantastic transition day! We started with a crew challenge of keep the balloon up in mini crews. The children were fantastic at this!

After that, we explored our new classroom. We found lots of new things to play with and to share with our friends and teachers!

Next, we had story time. We looked at a story called ‘all kinds of people’ and how we are all different but we all belong. We used our mirrors to paint self portraits thinking about the shapes of our faces, colour of our eyes and our hair. Our teachers are saving these to put up on our proud piece walls over summer so that we can show our grown ups on our first day!

Our final activity was exploring our forest school area! We put our wellies on and collected our scavenger hunt checklists with our partner to go and search for different items in the forest area. We had lots of fun collecting the different items and working with our pairs!

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back at the end of August!

Final RE lesson in MI

Today we started to think about and understand why people stand up against injustice because of their religion. We started the lesson with a role play activity where we set up a bus style scenario. Children had to unpick where people were placed on the bus and possible reasons why. We then changed the places on the bus making some people stand. Again we thought about the reasons why and took ourselves back to our spring expedition. We then watched a re-enactment of the story of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycott. Once we had unpicked the clip and re-enacted the story in mini crews, we looked at some bible quotes and thought about how they related to the story and the meanings behind them.

We then worked with our partner to generate questions that we would ask the main characters from the clip. We thought about the characters feelings and motivations at the time, particularly why as a Christian, Rosa Parks felt it was important to stand up for her rights. We then took it in turns to be the characters in a hot seating activity.

Finally we worked in mini crews to create an interview with one of the characters but set in modern times, allowing the interviewees to reflect on the results of the Civil Rights Movement. A great final RE lesson in MI today 🙂
