Expeditionary learning in MI

Today we learnt about the different organisations and people who contributed to the war effort. Our main activity allowed us to take part in an interview where we asked each other questions about the role card we had read about. Some children then performed their interview in front of the whole crew! We then shared the different role cards as a whole crew, learning about each person individually.

Book talk in MI

Our entry ticket today allowed us to recap the vocabulary we had unpicked and worked on over the last few sessions. We worked well in mini crews to read each definition together and match to the correct word. From here we looked at our new vocabulary before text marking in the text as we read. We used a partner read, independent read and echo read today. We also used timers to practise the speed of our reading. We are becoming more confident with this. Our reasons to read helped us to reflect on what we had read and to ensure we had understood the story so far. We made predictions in our exit ticket and are all excited to know what happens next in the story!

Magic Maths

Today in magic maths we’ve been exploring our times tables and how we can use a place value chart to support multiplying by ten. The challenge, wasn’t a challenge at all! I’m so proud of the progress Crew Godley are making with their maths!

UKS2 Family Learning

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our first family learning session of the term. It was lovely to see so many children and parents taking part in the space quiz and having some lighthearted fun along the way blind tasting the space-themed named sweet treats. Well done to our winning team who got to take home a bar of galaxy!

Music – We’ll Meet Again

As part of our history hook week, we’ve spent some time looking at the music of War time and the importance of this to boost morale. One of these songs was We’ll Meet Again by Vera Lynn. Then we used instruments to create a soundscape of sounds from the war.

Text Marking

In reading, we’ve been focusing on text marking for vocabulary that we were unfamiliar with. We discussed the important of understanding the vocabulary we’re reading as this helps our understanding of the text. As part of this, we practiced reading around the word as this can support our understanding.

Henry Moore – Artist

Hook week continued this week as we started to explore a local artist who does perspective drawing. This is what we’ll be focusing on in our final case study. Children worked together to research this artist before we critiqued some of his pieces of work.
