Today Crew Mcloughlin have started a new genre of writing – a newspaper report, which when finished will be published onto our blog. (How exciting) 😄 We hit the ground running with experience day where we unpicked and explored real newspaper articles. We discussed the purpose of newspaper articles, reliability and features included. After we had a secure understanding of the features, we worked in mini crews to read a selection of articles around the room. We found the different features then reported back our findings to the whole crew. We then watched a clip called ’Roads End.’ This is the stimulus we will use for our own newspaper report. We found the clip very intriguing and it allowed us to be like real life journalists. We then unpicked a model text before thinking specifically about headlines. We finished our lessons today by creating our very own! There was some great use of puns and alliteration.
Today we finished our History case study by learning about the Suffragettes. We ordered a timeline of important events and had some great discussions. Lovely to see the children asking questions to either clarify something or move their learning forward.

Red Nose Day 2023 is just around the corner!
To raise money, we’re going to come into school wearing non-uniform, dressing for joy!
If your child wishes to wear something red or decorated with the Red Nose logo they can. However, this is not compulsory. Please do not feel the need to go out and purchase something new.
If your child wishes to wear a red nose they can, however please can this be named.Â
A £1 donation is very much appreciated to support Red Nose Day, this can be brought in as cash on the day, thank you.
The money we raise will be used to change countless lives, both here in the UK and worldwide.
We really appreciate your support and hope that you’ll have fun helping us raise lots of money for Red Nose Day.Â
Do you know anyone who has worked in the mines or was a miner during the strikes, who would be willing to come and share their experiences with our children?
Do you have any mining artefacts that you would be willing to lend us?
If so, can you please either see Miss Shields in person or email at [email protected].
Thanking you in advance.
Miss Shields

Last Friday, we started the first of many reading celebrations to come! Lots of children across school were awarded for reading at home. Teachers have been keeping a log of how many children have been reading each week and we really wanted to praise those children (and grown ups!) who have really made the effort to read at home every night! We also celebrated the Crew who have been reading the most at home and last week’s winners (for Week 1) was Crew MI! Well done to all of the fabulous readers! Keep up the great work! I wonder who our Reading Champions will be next week? Could it be you?!
