Sharing our Stories: 20/10/2023
This week, most of our schools are on their half term break – except our newest school, XP Gateshead. They’ve had a week full of incredible stories…
Beautiful Work This Week @ XP Gateshead
Thomas Hepburn Memorial Service
On Saturday 14th October some of our staff, students and families from G30 attended the annual memorial service for Thomas Hepburn at St Mary’s Church, Heworth. The service commemorates the life of Thomas Hepburn who spent his life working to improve the lives of miners and their families as well as being the founder of the Colliers United of Durham and Northumberland in 1825.
It was a real honour to be invited to the ceremony where the acclaimed filmmaker, Ken Loach, spoke about Thomas Hepburn’s life and his fight for social justice as a leader of the first miners’ trade union. The service also featured readings from the local MP for Easington Grahame Morris, the Mayor of Gateshead, Cllr Eileen McMaster and the Reverend Lucy Moss. The Durham Miners Association Brass Band were wonderful and accompanied the service throughout. Following the service, wreaths were laid at Thomas Hepburn’s grave and the Felling Banner group gave our students the great honour of laying their wreath.

Autumn Term 2 Diary Dates
End of half term treats
Well Crew Marsh and Crew Haddock had a love treat to the end of our first half term. We had smores and popcorn in the rain.

Celebrating Harvest with KS1’s first performance to the whole school 🌾🚜🌾
KS1 have worked so hard on their Harvest Festival, sharing their learning with whole school! This was such a brave thing to do, so early on in the academic year, we were very proud of the children. Their confidence shone through. A big thank you to Miss McGlone to helping us with our music skills, we were excited to showcase these on the day.

Brownie Badges
Thank you to Frankie who brought in her Brownie sash this week. She explained to us the badges she has achieved and what she had to do to receive them. She should be very proud of herself. 😊

What do the miracles of Jesus teach us about what is important to Christians?
Magic vs Miracles
We began our lesson today by making objects disappear, it was very exciting! this led us perfectly into our next guiding question exploring the miracles Jesus performed. We discovered that a miracle is an event that goes against nature, cannot be explained and Christians believe they are caused by God. to help us understand this we listened to a story in the Bible, Jesus feeding 5000 people with five loaves and two fish.
We then created our own fish and imagined trying to feed 5000 people with it. It seemed impossible!

This week we have been making Autumnal and Spooky handprints!

Feature finding 🔎
In our writing lesson today, we have looked at different diary entries and discussed what features are included. We found that there are personal pronouns, time fronted adverbials, date, Dear Diary and it is written in past tense. We all worked incredibly hard to find these features in a Roman diary entry.
