A fabulous maths session to start the week. We had a quick recap of 3D shapes and then did a cutting and sticking activity to consolidate our learning!

This week, we’ve been learning how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions. We learned the method whole number times the denominator then add the numerator (if there is one). Some children found it easy to use the method whereas some others needed a bit of further support.

Today, we explored 3D shapes. We sorted them based on their properties and learnt some new vocabulary. We counted the faces, edges and vertices and then matched them to their name at the end of the lesson.

Yesterday afternoon, we recorded the results from our science experiment as a line graph. This allowed us to clearly see that the water on the radiator melted at a much quicker rate than the one on the table and one still in the freezer. We were able to make links with this to global warming and the fact the ice caps at melting at a faster rate due to the Earth warming up.

In maths, we’ve been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. We enjoyed consolidating our understanding with a board game at the end of the unit!

Today in maths, we have looked at doubling numbers. We doubled the ladybird’s spots and told our partners what double the number was. We then used our fingers to show double the numbers. We’re getting really good at remembering our doubles!

Last week in maths, we begun looking at pairs. We started off by taking items from a basket and finding our pair within the room. Next, Miss Welburn set us a challenge of pairing up all of the wellies from our pegs. We worked really hard to pair them all up and explained how we knew that they were pairs using size, patterns and colours.

We have been super busy in our maths lesson today 🙂 We have consolidated many areas! We looked at our timestables, fractions, pictograms and some arithmetic based questions. Great positive attitudes by all this morning 🙂

In maths we have been learning about 2d shapes. Today we investigated different regular and irregular shapes to see if they had lines of symmetry. We also learnt lots of new vocabulary including symmetry, symmetrical, horizontal and vertical!

In maths this week, we have been learning about angles and turns. Today, we learnt the terms acute, right and obtuse to describe angles and created our own.
