In our computing session this week, we found out about computer inputs. Electronic devices such as laptops, microwaves and remotes all have buttons which when used send an input into the internal computer. We found this really interesting and never thought there would be a computer inside our remote 😱 📺 We then had a go at designing our own robot and thinking about what inputs we would want it to have! 🤖💻

Today, we had a practical session with subordinate conjunctions. Children were asked to rearranged the words to create a sentence that made sense with a subordinate clause. Once each group had completed their section they moved around the other sentences and worked together to move the subordinate clause either to the start or end of the sentence.

Yr 4 is all systems go as we prepare for our MTC test later this year. We have been split into 4 groups and we take part in a carousel of activities each day to ensure we know our timetables and will be confident with them when the time comes to complete our MTC.

Before our writing grammar lesson yesterday, we played a game of 4 corners where children had to decide if a word was a noun, adverb, adjective or verb.

In grammar this afternoon, we looked at why headings and subheadings are used in nonfiction texts. We discussed how headings are used to tell you what the page is about and subheadings are used to tell you what the paragraph will be about. We then had a go at matching the paragraph to the correct subheading.

During crew this morning, we went out onto the playground to pick up litter. We found lots of litter hiding down drains and behind the container. We really do enjoy keeping our school environment tidy. 🗑

We worked in mini crews to put chunks of sentences together in order to create full sentences that included a subordinate clause (a clause that does not make sense on its own). The sentences we created were:
We discussed which part of these sentences was the main clause and which part was the subordinate. We also discussed whether our sentences could be put in a different order and still make sense.

Some of Crew Hamill were lucky enough to be chosen to take part in a boxing class this afternoon. We had so much fun and Miss Hamill was super impressed with how strong our punching skills were!

Crew Hamill have been learning how to add measurements this week and we consolidating our learning today by finding measurements around the room and using the column method to add them together. We worked really hard on ensuring our columns lined up and that we could add the measurements accurately, starting with our ones. Some of us even challenged ourselves to add metres and centimetres, converting between the two!
