E Safety Day

In crew, we have been learning about the importance of keeping ourselves online. This is an aspect we have spoke about before as it is essential that we conduct ourselves responsibility online. We were able to identify some of the issues that we may encounter online and how important it is to speak to others. We then created some posters with ideas of how to stay safe online.

Writing features – grammar

During our writing day, we have been unpicking some text to identify adverbs, prepositional phrases and subordinate clauses. We worked with our shoulder partner to find these and then created a bank of adverbials to support us in our writing.

We discussed that it was important that when selecting an adverbial for our writing that we are able to demonstrate how it would fit within the writing.

The beginning of Case Study 2 in Nursery! 🌹🌿🪴

This week we have had a mini hook week introducing us to our next Case Study – ‘What happens when we plant a seed?’

The sand in our sand tray has magically turned into soil and we have been using gardening tools and plant pots to make ’soil castles’.

We have also been making our own succulent pots in the playdough area, using brown playdough, plant pots, leaves and decorative stones to create mini succulent plants.

We have also been sorting different parts of a flower in the tuff tray. We’ve been deciding whether it is a stem, leaf, petal or full flower and putting it in the correct section. The petals are really soft to touch and the flowers smell beautiful!

Exploring a new text in MI

Today MI was introduced to a new text in our reading lesson. We used an image to think about what we notice, what the image reminded us of, what we would like to know and then we thought about what may happen in the text. There was some great and interesting conversations which challenged our thought process. We then used a variety of strategies to read the text, thinking about the pace of our reading but ensuring we were fluent. As we read, we thought about some of the vocabulary. We used a range of strategies to unpick some of the more challenging language and applied definitions to our own text. This then helped us with our next activity. We worked in mini crews to build a vocabulary jigsaw where we had to match different words to their definition. A great job by all 🙂

Worded problems for MI in maths

Our do now activity in maths today was exploring a variety of worded problems. This is something that came up in our recent maths assessments so we enjoyed working collaboratively to unpick each question, deciding on the correct operation and the steps needed to solve the problems. We are going to continue to explore these types of problems in our do now activities over the next couple of weeks.

Do sharks eat polar bears?

This was the question that Crew Godley were eager to find out. We were exploring food chains and the question popped up that could a polar bear be eaten by a shark? The answer was yes! Greenland sharks 🦈 can survive up to 200 years at depths of up to 600 meters under the artic ice 🧊. They are bigger than a great white and been known to eat polar bears 🐻‍❄️. We were fascinated by the facts we discovered.
