Bye bye butterflies 🦋

Over the weekend it was time to release our butterflies! Once the net was unzipped, they did not waste any time in coming out and exploring the great outdoors. They took a fancy to the flowerbed close to where they were released and spent time familiarising themselves with the colourful flowers and grass. One butterfly decided to land on Miss McGlone’s finger and it was very happy to sit there taking in the sunshine ☀️

Now the butterflies are out in the wild, the whole life cycle process will continue and eventually begin again! 🐛🦋

🦋

Yet another butterfly update! At last, all 5 butterflies have emerged from their cocoons and are now getting used to their new, beautiful wings. They have been enjoying the sugar water and this is giving them lots of energy to test out their new wings and also get used to their new bodies. I can tell that they are almost ready to get outside so I will be releasing them from their net into the garden tomorrow! 🦋🥰

Another update… 🐛 ➡️ 🦋

Our chrysalises are no longer chrysalises anymore… we have butterflies! At the moment, we have 3 butterflies that have emerged from their cocoons with another 2 yet to say hello! They will stay in the net for a few days before being let out into the big, wide world 🦋

Caterpillar update! 🐛

This week our caterpillars turned into chrysalises and we even caught one of the caterpillars spinning their cocoon! They will stay in their cocoons between 7-14 days before emerging so Miss McGlone has taken them home over the Easter holidays where they have settled in to their new environment well. Keep an eye out for updates when the butterflies begin to appear! 🦋

XP Outdoors – Welcoming Spring 🌼🐞🪲

We have welcomed Spring by creating playdough creatures to add to our whole school display in our Forest School.

To begin, we use our rolling skills to create the bodies of our creatures before then pushing and pressing extra details to finalise our creatures. We are so pleased with how they turned out!

Later in the week we got the opportunity to go and see our creations on display in the forest. We really enjoyed seeing our insects as part of the display and we liked looking at what the rest of school had contributed too.

Dare devils in Crew Welburn!

The children have loved been outside this week and have shown how brave they all are when creating new games. The children have spent time exploring forces and have particularly enjoyed making rollercoasters and seeing how fast they can go! Using crates, ropes, bikes and they muscles to push and pull, they explored how to make super speedy rides 🎢
