Today we continued to read The Smartest Giant in Town. The next character George meets is a family of mice whose house has burned down. For our experience lesson we made mice. They were very cute!

We are really enjoying our art slice and are trying really hard to be resilient when we find some of the skills challenging. We can’t wait to complete our final pieces.

In maths today, we read the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We used the language, ‘over’, ‘under’ and ‘through’ to describe what the characters were doing. After we learnt the vocabulary, we built the story using small world resources and showed how the characters moved through the story, using our new vocabulary to describe what they were doing. We then placed our peg dolls around the classroom and used language like, ‘on top of’, ‘underneath’, ‘inside’ and ‘next to’ to describe where the peg dolls were.

After the new year we have camps running at Carcroft – 2nd January – 5th January. Sign up using the link below. Coach Luke is doing the camps.

Today in Crew MW, we started our Christmas artwork! The skill we are focussing on is colour mixing..We had lots of fun using our hands to print into one colour, our partner then printed in the second colour and then we mixed our hands together to see what colour the mixed colours made. We found out that blue and red make purple, yellow and red makes orange, and blue and yellow makes green! 🎨

Yesterday, we started to look at our next writing unit. We thought it only fitting to do some Christmas writing as that will be a lovely way to end the term off.
We are using a short scene from The Polar Express and writing a narrative. We started by sequencing the events in the video and generating some vocabulary that could help us.

In today’s experience lesson we each made our own tin foil boat to see if it floated on water. We balanced coins in the boat to make it even harder. After that, we chotted all of our ideas to think about what actions George did, what he could see and then how he might of felt after giving his shirt to the goat to use as a sail on his boat.
We love singing the song for each plot point.

KS1 have been busy wrapping presents today to donate to Hallam FM’s Christmas Mission. We are so proud of the children showing such kindness and compassion.

This morning we have been perfecting our Christmas performance songs. We have been looking at making sure we are singing in time to the beat, adding in body percussion where needed, and getting the lyrics absolutely spot on! It is sounding really beautiful – we just need to keep practising our lines at home so that the whole performance really comes together ready for next week!
We finished off by continuing to learn how to play the recorder. We applied our knowledge of the notes B and A and put them into a short piece of music. We clapped out the rhythm before adding the instruments. Great work! 🎵
