Demonstration Comprehension

Today, we re-read our class text – Wailing Winny’s Carboot Sale – and really honed in on what was happening in the story, pulling apart each part of the text to truly understand the story. Following this, we listened as Miss Hamill demonstrated how she would answer comprehension questions based on what we had read. We worked with her to identify the key information within the question (e.g. key vocabulary) and then identified this on the specified page. We learned that it was extremely important to be specific when pulling our answers out of the text and that when we were finding and copying information, it must be spelt correctly!

George Seurat 🖼️ 👩‍🎨

Today we were artists and found out about the French post-impressionist artist Georges Seurat.
Seurat used pointillism to create his artwork. After a gallery walk and a critique session we had a go at using the pointillist techniques. We decided that this was one of our favourite technique with the effects we created and critiqued our first piece. We then used the critique to create another draft.

Miss Burge also shared that she was a magnificent artist at school and drew her Dad using pointillism. We were blown away by her portrait. This inspired us to try even harder, to get smart.

Demonstration comprehension

Today we carried on reading our book about Africa and focussed on the country Nigeria. We answered a range of ‘why?’ questions and then answered using ‘because….. to explain using the evidence from the text. As a challenge, we answered an impressions question where we used APE to help us to answer. We had a go at writing our answers on post its and then Mrs Ibbotson modelled it.

COJO fun!

We had lots of fun completing our COJO challenge this morning in Crew MW. We flew to the jungle and had to tip toe through the swamp without waking up the crocodiles! We balanced, climbed, jumped and crawled our way through the swamp, and we managed to do it without waking up any of the crocodiles! 🐊

Book Talk 📖

In our book talk lessons this week, we have looked at a different page in our book “Guardians of the planet”. We have read the text, unpicked key vocabulary which we didn’t understand and asked questions about what we had read. We have learnt lots about renewable energy and wind energy whilst adding lots of key vocabulary to our glossary.

Scientific Data 📈

Today, we started Case Study 2 – Science. This will support us in answering our guiding question: How can we protect our wonderful world? During our first lesson, we looked at a range of data about Svalbard and discussed what this told us. We were shocked to discover just how much things are changing due to climate change and the impact this has on Svalbard.

Book Talk 📚🗣️

Today in book talk, we delved deeper into our text for this week – Wailing Winnie’s Carboot Sale. We used our fastest finger first skills and had a think in our pairs to find the answers to some questions related to the text. We loved reading about Winnie accidentally selling her husband’s pair of old, smelly trainers and the mission she had to go on to get them back.
