Today in maths, we were exploring finding 1 more. We chose a number from the spinner, made it and found 1 more! We were really confident in making the number and then showing what 1 more would be using our tens frames and counters.

In maths, we’ve been looking at how to convert fractions into percentages. We were surprised how easy it can be and can’t wait to carry on looking at decimals!
Today we looked at clockwise and anti clockwise, exploring turns. We looked at a quarter turn, a half turn, a three quarter turn and a full turn. We enjoyed exploring the turns with our own bodies 🙂 We then applied our learning to some written questions.
A fantastic arithmetic session today, working on a variety of different questions.
In maths we have been revisiting gaps in our learning from the year so far. Our arithmetic of four operations is secure so we are revisiting multi-step worded problems which we found tricky at the start of the year. To begin with we unpicked various problems together – starting with one step to build our understanding. Then in partners did lots of wipeboard work. When miss assessed we were ready to move on – we picked SATS problems from around the room to solve – it really helped collaborating with others to read and understand the given problems. Y6 are smashing their learning!
In maths we have been investigating the number 8, finding different ways that 8 can be made.
Yr 4 is all systems go as we prepare for our MTC test later this year. We have been split into 4 groups and we take part in a carousel of activities each day to ensure we know our timetables and will be confident with them when the time comes to complete our MTC.
Crew Hamill have been learning how to add measurements this week and we consolidating our learning today by finding measurements around the room and using the column method to add them together. We worked really hard on ensuring our columns lined up and that we could add the measurements accurately, starting with our ones. Some of us even challenged ourselves to add metres and centimetres, converting between the two!
This week, in magic maths, we have been looking at halving and quartering shapes. We talked about each part must be equal. We talked about how 2 parts or 4 parts make a whole shape.
In arithmetic this afternoon, we were learning how to divide by 6. We have found this a little tricky as we struggled to see how many groups of 6 we could make especially if there were some left over. We got some cubes out so we could physically group it into 6. We’ll continue to work on this in our next arithmetic lesson.
