Making a Loop

To start the lessons, we reminded ourselves of what we’d discovered last week when we were tinkering with scratch. We thought of 5 things then shared this with our partners.

Once we had reminded ourselves of the capabilities of Scratch, we explored making a loop by using sounds for our sprite and having them play the sounds at the same time.

Case Study One Reflection

During case study one LKS2 have been learning about the the origins of the Roman Empire and how they changed Britain.

Today the children completed their case study reflection using Padlet. They worked in small groups to answer questions and I was really impressed with how much they could recall from the past few weeks. Please scan the QR code to see their work.

Roman Religion

Today were learnt that Romans didn’t just believe in one God like Christians do but they believed in many Gods and Goddesses. This is called polytheism.

We started by taking part in a gallery walk to find out the names and roles of lots of different Roman Gods. We then discussed the different festivals and how they link to Roman festivals.

I loved seeing the drawings the children produced too!

PVPG

Today was our final PVPG lesson and I was extremely impressed by how much the children have learnt and remembered from Year 2. It can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in writing this year!

Tinkering with Scratch

Year started a new unit in computing this week which will be starting to explore the coding programme Scratch. Children had the opportunity to explore the different blocks, starting to build a code and changing their background and sprite. Before we ended the lesson, some children shared their code with the rest of the class on the big screen.

Who was Boudicca?

Today in expedition we learnt about Boudicca and how she fought against the Roman invasion. The children had to decide if they thought she was a hero or trouble maker. This led to a healthy debate as each child shared their opinions.

Packet Data

In year 3, we have been looking at how data travels. Often the data is too big and we’re unable to send it in one go. This is when it’s broken down into packets which are smaller and more managable. To help the children understand this, we first of all used cubes to build a tower but. E cause it was too big, they had to break it down into individual cubes. Then they used a 3×3 grid and drew a picture. Children cut up their image and gave it to another person to piece back together. This allows children to see that bigger files are broken down and reassembled when they get to their destination.

Text Marking

Today in Crew Robson we tried to text text marking for the first time. We talked through what all the symbols mean and then unpicked an example before having a go independently.

How does a website work?

Year 3 have been learning about how a website works and how we receive information on our computers. They learned that when we type in a website, we send a request to a server that sends the information back to our computer. In some cases, the server may need to request the information from the cloud which stores data before it’s sent back to the computer. Children then worked independently to demonstrate their understanding by drawing a diagram of how information is sent.
