Comparing Non Unit Fractions

Today we used the blocks to explore and compare non unit fractions.

Changing States Experiment

Today we conducted an experiment to see what would happen to chocolate when we applied heat.

We put 3 pieces of chocolate in a metal bowl inside a bowl filled with hot water.

To begin with the chocolate was solid.

We timed in 1 minute intervals and observed and recorded what happened to the chocolate.

After 4 minutes the chocolate was completely melted and was a liquid.

We put the chocolate back in the fridge for half an hour to see if it would change state again.

After 30 minutes it was a solid again!

Sharing our independent writes ✏️

It was lovely to see children sharing their independent writes that they have been working on over the past week.

A big shout out to those children who stood up and shared their stories with the class too!

Year 3 enjoyed starting case study two with a lesson on states of matter. We investigated what the particles look like in solids, liquids and gases and how changes in temperature affect states of matter.

Fabulous Fractions

Today in maths we began our first fractions unit. We used coloured paper to deepen our understanding of the denominator. We learnt that the bigger the denominator, the smaller the fraction.
