Fantastic Fossils!
Today, we looked at what fossils are and the process of fossil formation. First, we made our own fossils in modelling clay. We found this really interesting and loved seeing the patterns appear in the clay. We then worked in mini crews to order the process of fossil formation.

Feature Finding! 🔍🕵📖📝✏
This morning as part of our Expedition/The Write Stuff learning in Crew FE, we looked at the features of scripts. These included, a title, setting the scene, a list of people, a list of props, stage directions, a new line for a new speaker and the names written on the left, as well as a range of punctuation including brackets, colons and bullet points. We also discussed the audience and purpose of scripts. Next week, we are going to be writing our own broadcasting script informing others of the catastrophic earthquakes that occurred in Syria and Turkey earlier this year as part of our Expeditionary learning, ‘Earth Shattering Events’, ‘What happens when nature strikes?’. We will also hopefully be performing and recording these using a green screen at the end of the week, and hope to share these as part of our COL event later in the term! 📽

Coal Mining Museum
We have had the best day as we explored the coal mining museum. Children had the opportunity to go on and underground tour of a working mine and hear stories from the miners giving the tours. Some of us were a little worried about going in the elevator and going underground but we faced our fears and went anyway. It was so lovely seeing the others encouraging them and trying to reassure them.
We also went to see the out ponies and the blacksmith workshop. Luckily, they were waiting in another school arriving so they took the time to chat with the children.
Well done to the children who asked lots of questions as this showed your eagerness to learn.
This fieldwork has worked out well for timing as it also acted as an experience day for writing. Our next plot point is about going into the mine and we’ve all now had experience of doing that. Lots of tired children and adults on the way home.

Fascinating Fossils 🦴🪨🦕
In Crew FE this afternoon we learnt all about fossils, fossilisation and dinosaurs! 🦴🪨🦕 As part of our learning we had a go at using some modelling clay and shells to create our own fossils!

Reading Certificates
Well done to this group of children for receiving certificates in reading. These were awarded for children who have read the most each week this half term.

Arithmetic ➕➗
It got competitive in the classroom this morning when putting our arithmetic skills to the test!

Active maths lesson
Today, in Crew Marsh we started learning about fractions and finding halves. I was very impressed with how well the crew did!
