On Wednesday, we were treated to a production of Oliver Twist. This was a big deal for Crew McGlone because it was the first time we had been in the hall for a performance with the rest of the school! We absolutely LOVED IT! We loved the lights, the music, everything! We sat so beautifully as well throughout the whole performance, our teachers we so proud of how well we behaved! We can’t wait for the next production! 🎭

Drawing transport ✈️🚗🚀🚌
In expedition, we have been looking at different modes of transport and how they can help us to move around our local area, as well as how they can help us to move around the world. We have looked at the purpose of various vehicles and how some are suitable for shorter journeys, whereas others are suitable for longer journeys.
We looked at different locations (Asda Carcroft, Doncaster City Centre, Cleethorpes, Canada, and Kenya) and thought carefully about the transport that would be needed to get to each destination. We then drew the transport we would like to use to get to that location. Take a look at some of our beautiful drawings below!

Brilliant building 🧱👷🏼♀️
I’ve been so impressed to see so many brilliant builds in our construction and small world areas this week. The designs have been wonderful and the team work has been outstanding! I have heard lots of critique, positive comments, polite and kind words – it has made me feel very proud!

Celebrating Success! 🥇🎉👏🏆
This week in LKS2 we had lots of successes to celebrate in our LKS2 Community Meeting! We had three pupils who all achieved Learning Legend this week for being super mathematicians and blowing us all away with their recent arithmetic test scores!

We also celebrated all of those pupils who have been reading at home the most in each Crew, it was AMAZING to see so many pupils in Crew Thompson that had read 5 times in a week! I wonder if some others might be able to do this next week and if we can have more pupils to celebrate?! 📚

In addition to those pupils who read at home regularly we also chose a ‘Star Reader’ from each crew! This week the reasons were for, making great progress in reading fluency, participating lots during reading sessions and for excellent comprehension skills during assessment week. These pupils also got to have a special breakfast with Mrs Atherton today! I wonder who our ‘Star Readers’ will be next week?

Finally, we celebrated some extra special achievements. These boys have been working incredibly hard out of school! One for participating in a football tournament and the other for writing his own story linked to our Expeditionary learning! Fab work boys! Well done! 👏

Design an alien 👽
In our book The Man on the Moon Bob thinks there’s no such thing as aliens, but we know different! Here is what we think they might look like! I can’t wait to read your character descriptions!

We love books and biscuits 🍪 📚

XP outdoors
This week in xp outdoors the children have been making a nature tree. They had cut out cardboard with just the trunk of a tree in and they had to collect flowers to make their own tree.

Thursday afternoon library visit 📚
Crew Thompson love a library visit! We get so excited browsing through the different books on offer and finding one that we want to take home to read. We noticed some beautiful bookmarks made by Crew McLoughlin and just had to take one for our own books. Thank you, Crew McLoughlin! 😀💕

Old clothes – final product
On Monday, the children will be recorded reading their poems for the final product. Some have requested that they do a voiceover but some would like to be in the video dressed as a miner.
For these children we have suggested they bring an old white or dark plain T-shirt or shirt (even if it’s from an older sibling/parent) that you wouldn’t mind us putting a few rips in and rubbing coal over it. We’d like to give the video an authentic look. They could also wear a dark coloured waistcoat and a flat cap if they can get access to them.
Children would need to bring these into school on Monday morning.
We’re looking forward to sharing the final product when it’s complete.
Thank you
Swimming – Year 5
Just a reminder that tomorrow and next Friday, children will need to bring shorts and T-shirt in addition to their normal swimming stuff. The shorts and T-shirt will be getting wet so it’s essential they have dry clothes.
I would suggest wearing the shorts and T-shirt over their swimming costumes and bringing their Pe kit in their bags to change into after swimming.
Thank you
