RE – Christianity ⛪🕯✝

This week in Crew FE we have been learning all about Christianity. We began the week by learning about Christians and what they believe. We talked about how they go to church to worship God, pray, sing hymns and celebrate. We looked at what items and who might be found inside a church including a priest, vicar or minister and what their role is. We also discussed the Bible (the Holy Book for Christians) and shared some of the Bible stories that we knew including the Good Samaritan. We also looked at the 10 commandments and shared our thoughts around these including why we thought they were important for Christians. We then focused on a ‘good’ Christian called Florence Nightingale. We found out lots of interesting facts about her including that she helped people during the Crimean War, set up her own nursing hospital when she came back to London and improved the sanitation in all hospitals. We then finished our week of RE by listening to some popular hymns 🎵 including ‘This Little Light of Mine’🕯and ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ 🌍 🌷 and thought about how the songs were linked to God and Christianity.

RE – Florence Nightingale 🕯️🏥

This week we have spent our RE lessons learning all about Christianity and an important Christian person, Florence Nightingale. We have found out lots of interesting facts about Florence Nightingale and as a Crew we decided that she was a good Christian. She helped lots of people during the Crimean War and even set up her own nursing hospital when she came back to London! 🕯️🏥 We also looked at Christian hymns and discussed the messages that these songs portray. Our favourite was ‘This Little Light of Mine’ 💡⛪

Crew Marsh transition

I loved meeting my new crew on Tuesday and finding out different things about everyone. We firstly wrote our names and I was very impressed with how hard everybody worked. We then took part in a marshmallow challenge, where we had to build a structure so the egg would not smash. We also went on an outdoor scavenger hunt and then finished off our day drawing self portraits.

It was a very busy today but I look forward to teaching and getting to know the children more next year.

Water Safety 💦💧🌊

In KS1 we have been exploring how to keep safe in the water, especially with the warmer weather on the way. We produced some beautiful posters to help our crew remember to think carefully about entering the water 🌊

Here are our key messages to our crew……

Dominic said, “don’t go near the edge, you might fall in.”

Leo told his crew, “there might be rubbish in lakes what might pull you under.”

Evie said, “Don’t go in water without a grown up because you could drown and there isn’t a grown up to help you.”

LKS2 Celebration of Learning 🌍🎶🌊⛰🌋🏫

This afternoon marked the end of our LKS2 Expedition, ‘Earth Shattering Events’. To celebrate all of the learning that had taken place we invited parents, grandparents and other family members to join us for a special celebration in the school hall. Children sang songs, performed poems and shared interesting facts that they had learnt about earth shattering events such as, earthquakes, volcanoes and floods. The children were amazing and we were all super proud of them! 👏

Thank you so much to all of the grown ups who attended to support their child/ren, it was a great turnout! Also if you didn’t get the opportunity to buy one of our celebratory baskets that includes the book that the children created as part of their Autumn Expedition, then these will be available to purchase from Crew Thompson after school tomorrow!

EYFS Sports Day

What an amazing morning! Crew McGlone and Crew Welburn were absolutely fabulous during our Sports Day and the amount of grown ups that joined us was wonderful! The children were so well behaved and really enjoyed themselves. The weather managed to hold out and the rain held off – wahoo! Thank you so much to all the grown ups who came to share this lovely event with us, your support is very much appreciated!

Crew Robson Final Word

As we approach the end of the year, and our wonderful Yr2s are about to take on one final challenge – their Final Word presentations!

Thank you to those who have already signed up to come and share your child’s presentation. If you haven’t signed up or require another time please let me know and I’ll try my best to accommodate you. The children have worked really hard on their presentations and are excited to share them with you.

Transition – Crew MW (continued)

More pictures of our extremely exciting day on Tuesday!

Because we usually only stay for a morning session, we got to enjoy our first proper dinner time as we stayed for a FULL DAY for our transition! We thought our lunch was delicious and did an amazing job of lining up at the servery and we were very polite when talking to our lovely kitchen staff.
