Today MI was introduced to a new text in our reading lesson. We used an image to think about what we notice, what the image reminded us of, what we would like to know and then we thought about what may happen in the text. There was some great and interesting conversations which challenged our thought process. We then used a variety of strategies to read the text, thinking about the pace of our reading but ensuring we were fluent. As we read, we thought about some of the vocabulary. We used a range of strategies to unpick some of the more challenging language and applied definitions to our own text. This then helped us with our next activity. We worked in mini crews to build a vocabulary jigsaw where we had to match different words to their definition. A great job by all 🙂

Our do now activity in maths today was exploring a variety of worded problems. This is something that came up in our recent maths assessments so we enjoyed working collaboratively to unpick each question, deciding on the correct operation and the steps needed to solve the problems. We are going to continue to explore these types of problems in our do now activities over the next couple of weeks.

Y1 have had visitors from the schools nurses to explain dental health to them. The children enjoyed finding out all about their teeth and are looking forward to brushing their teeth at home for 2 minutes!

Crew Godley had a lovely day in the forest painting leaves , printing them on paper then throwing them in the air, what a lovely sunny day for it.
LKS2 would like to invite you to our cake sale on Thursday 9th February straight after school at 3pm. The cake stall will be set up outside Crew Flaherty and cakes will be on sale from 30p. We would really appreciate any donations you can make for our cake sale.
The money we raise from the cake sale will be going to a family who have recently suffered a bereavement and we would like to show our support as a school community by helping them to set up a memorial garden where the children can remember the special times they had with their loved one.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and support

This was the question that Crew Godley were eager to find out. We were exploring food chains and the question popped up that could a polar bear be eaten by a shark? The answer was yes! Greenland sharks 🦈 can survive up to 200 years at depths of up to 600 meters under the artic ice 🧊. They are bigger than a great white and been known to eat polar bears 🐻❄️. We were fascinated by the facts we discovered.
This week, Crew Mcloughlin have been busy writing their diary entry independently. They are writing from a 10 year olds girls perspective in 1963, who’s dad has made her attend Martin Luther Kings speech that morning. All children have thoroughly planned, used the learning environment to effectively support them and produced beautiful work in the process. I think this is our best writing yet and I cannot wait to share the final redrafts next week!

In citizenship crew this week we have been focusing on different strengths and employability skills. We used the idea of a human knot and then discussed what skills we used during the activity: the children mentioned communication, teamwork, leadership and problem solving. We explored other skills like enthusiasm and ability to take critique which they displayed too.

We debriefed why we thought these skills would be important to an employer and identified employability skills we already had. Crew Mcloughlin are really showing maturity when exploring careers related learning and it lovely to see them all having dreams and ambition 🤩
We ended celebrating this week by Crew Mcloughlin and MI reading to Y3/4 children. Y6 were so excited to share their recent setting description and diary’s that they had written; we felt like real authors! It was lovely to see so many kind words of praise from the younger children (not so much between siblings 😬). Y3/4 praised our beautiful handwriting, how thought out and detailed our writing was and even voted some children to be hoWL hero. All the Y6 children thought it was an amazing experience and have said we should do it again!
