Hook Week in Crew MI

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a lovely Easter break!

Yesterday we started our hook week with a history day! We started to think about periods of history and which significant people and groups we could remember. From here we did our own research to find specific dates and started to order these using BC and AD. We then worked as a crew to create a paper chain of periods of time throughout history. We then used the images on our anchor chart to predict what we thought the guiding question may be. We realised that one image was a plague doctor, we enjoyed discussing this. We then had a go at drawing our own plague doctors, we all worked really hard and showed some great concentration skills.

Y5 Swimming 🏊‍♀️

Morning all,

Y5 swimming commences this Friday for the next 12 weeks. Y5 children can come to school in their swimming kit ready as this makes it easier when we arrive at the pool – swimming costumes for girls, trunks for boys and a towel. Girls I would also recommend having your hair up or bringing a bobble with you. Please don’t forget to pack your undies for coming home in!

Y5 will be leaving for swimming lessons at 8:45am so if children could be at school promptly this will massively help getting to the session on time, doors will be open for Y5 from 8:35am.

Happy Swimming! 👍

Design and Technology in Crew MI

Today we continued our expedition lessons by looking at tool safety and thinking about some of the equipment and materials we will use to create our photo frames. We all had a go at using a saw to cut a piece of wood. We then used sand paper to ensure the sides of our wood were smooth. We also used wood glue to join some of the wood together. We evaluated the process thinking about praises, notices and wonders. We are all looking forward to creating our own photo frames during the rest of the week.

Research in Crew MI

Today we started to think about our next piece of writing, a monologue. We discussed what this was and looked at different examples, unpicking features. We then decided which animal we would base our monologue on then started researching facts on our animals appearance, diet, habitat and why it is classed as vulnerable. We are looking forward to continuing our research tomorrow!

Crew MI final product

We had a lovely proud moment on Friday for our Fantastic Friday Crew! We shared our final product for our last expedition ‘How have trains been on a journey of change?’ Crew MI are proud to say that we are now published authors. Hope you have had a lovely weekend and enjoyed looking at our beautiful work. Well done everyone 🙂

Writing in Crew MI

Today we have continued to write our persuasive letters. Children are working so hard to ensure they are using their target grids to support their writing and we are really impressed with the quality of what they are producing. We should finish our letters tomorrow and are looking forward to reading them out loud to each other. Here are some examples…

Reading in Crew MI

Today in reading we played a quick game where we matched different words to their definition. Children worked well in partners to do this. We also thought about the word class of each word. From here we introduced our new vocabulary for the day (conservation) and unpicked the word together. We then read our text focussing on fluency and expression. We used a read around the robin, an echo read, a chorus read and then we read with our partner. Our fluency is really improving. Children then helped me to unpick some questions on the board looking at different question types and how we go about answering each question. I was super impressed with the amount of information children had remembered. Children are now ready to answer comprehension questions independently tomorrow.
