Crew FE Important Updates for Parents

Student Led Conferences
You should have received an email regarding Student Led Conferences taking place next week. Please follow the link for your child’s Crew leader in order to book a time slot. As your child will be leading the conference it is vital that they attend.

Trip
As you will be aware, we will be going on our trip to Cleethorpes on Wednesday 4th May (next week). Thank you for your contributions to ensure that the trip can go ahead. We are really looking forward to taking the children and experiencing the seaside to enhance our expedition “What happens where the sea meets the shore?”.

School lunches will be provided and children will not need any spending money to take with them. School will provide an ice cream for children whilst there.

Children will need:

  • to be in school uniform
  • Suitable sun protection such as a sun hat and sun cream (to be applied at home)
  • A raincoat

Summer Weather
As we move into the warmer weather, please be conscious of sending your child to school with suitable sun protection. Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school labelled with their name that they can access through the day. Cups are not provided in class due to the risk of spreading germs.

Thursdays
PE will now take place on Thursdays for Crew FE. Please send your child to school in suitable clothing and footwear such as jogging bottoms/shorts and comfortable shoes.
Homework is also welcomed into school on Thursdays so it can be shared with the rest of the Crew.

Any questions, please ask your child’s Crew Leader.

EYFS Summer Expedition

This week, the children in EYFS started their new expedition! Their expedition title is ‘Early Years Explorers’ and their guiding question is ‘What happens where the sea meets the shore?’

As part of their expedition this term, the children will be completing three case studies and answering some questions as part of these case studies:

  • Case Study 1: Why is the seaside a special place? (Understanding the World: Past and Present)
  • Case Study 2: What’s all the commotion at the ocean? (Understanding the World: The Natural World)
  • Case Study 3 : Where does your seaside adventure take you? (Expressive Arts and Design: Being Imaginative)

Throughout the expedition, a range of texts will be used to inspire, shape and lead the children’s learning:

  • Case Study 1: Lucy and Tom at the Seaside
  • Case Study 2: Commotion in the Ocean
  • Case Study 3 : Billy’s Bucket

Over the course of the term, we will blog about what the children have learnt and experienced as part of their expedition on our individual crew pages. We will also upload photographs of the children’s learning and share their completed work on our expedition website.

If you go down to the woods today…

The children in Crew FE had a very mysterious note delivered to school yesterday. They were asked to follow the map to find an interesting object that the sender had left there many years before.

The children quickly worked out that they had to head to the forest school area, as George said “X marks the spot!”. When we got there, we found a suitcase filled with lots of different items such shells, sand, rock and a swimming costume. We pieced the clues together to figure out that our note sender must have been to the seaside!

Happy Easter everyone! 🐣 We hope you have had an amazing day in the sunshine.

We had a great surprise this morning, our first butterflies 🦋 appeared! We have ensured they are happy with some juicy fruit and water and will be releasing them soon.

We have 3 cocoons still waiting to pop (shouldn’t be too long now), as soon as we have all of the beautiful butterflies together we will set them free. It has been amazing seeing their transformations.

Have a lovely night and see you all soon.

Well, we now have 5 cocoons and have gently transferred the very wriggly cocoons into the butterfly net.

We had to carefully remove all the caterpillar webbing to ensure the butterflies won’t get caught in them when they hatch. It was a nervous process, ensuring we didn’t disturb the cocoons.

Hopefully it won’t be too much longer to wait until we see wings!

Hope everyone is enjoying their half term!

I just wanted to give a little update on the caterpillars of crew FE. 🐛

We now have cocoons! 3 fat caterpillars have made their way to the top of the tub to create their cocoons and 2 more wriggly caterpillars are still enjoying the food before turning themselves.

Once all 5 caterpillars have spun their cocoons they will be transferred to the butterfly net. Can’t wait to see them transform!

Expedition Trip within EYFS.

Thanks Crew Foundation x

Caring Crew in Foundation Stage.

Today the children made bird feeders using their fine motor skills. They thought of appropriate places around the outside area they could place them to feed the local birds.

We spoke about how placing food outside could help the birds during the season of Spring and support them with their young. The unit have been so caring and have really impressed their teacher with their empathy towards the wildlife.

Well done Crew FE!

Comic Relief in Crew FE!

The children have learnt all about comic relief and why we fundraise today. We have enjoyed coming to school in our non uniform and silly hair and here are just a few of our children raising funds for such a worthy cause.

We have spoke about fundraising and how this shows kindness to others who may not be as lucky as we are in their lives.

Well done everyone who took part.

Working hard to get smart in crew FE.

The children impressed their teachers this morning, as they came into school and within minutes were on task completing their morning learning.

They have worked hard on their handwriting and can now write their first names independently with most children also writing their surname without support.

Well done Crew FE keep up the wonderful attitude towards your daily tasks.
