We are architects!

Crew nursery have been learning to plan and design buildings this week! They have designed their own buildings and thought carefully about how they could make them interesting. Some children added slides and flag poles while others included a swimming pool! The children thought about the shape of the windows on their buildings, with some opting to have circular windows like those that are seen on pirate ships!

EYFS Trip to Austerfield Study Centre.

The children within crew FE had an absolute brilliant day yesterday on their first school trip. After looking closely at the three little pigs during their expedition learning the staff at the centre devised several activities to further embed this knowledge and encourage the children to build on their knowledge to answer the guiding question “in a world of possibilities what would you make?”

The children had the chance to build their own houses in a real forrest using the same materials as the three little pigs. They worked in mini crews to create their structures and afterwards tested them against the blowing strength of the big bad wolf.

After lunch the children went on a trail to find jigsaw pieces which led to a story den. They were able to use a map and their orienteering skills to locate the different areas where the pieces were hidden. By listening to each other they were bale to work smart and together found pieces which made 4 jigsaws all linking to traditional story tales.

The children were a real create to Carcroft school and a pleasure to have on a school visit.

We are performers!

Crew Nursery have been retelling the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ in their very own puppet theatre! They used loud, clear voices to ensure that their audience could hear them and they remembered the key phrases from the story well.

‘Little pig, little pig, let me come in…..’

Do you want to be a Digital Leader?

Across the Trust, children in Years 2 – 5 are being given the opportunity to become an XP Trust Digital Leader.

The launch event for this brilliant scheme took place in school last week and applications are still open for children to apply to take part. Time has been spent in Crew discussing this and supporting with applications, but please do encourage your children to get involved.

Ask your children about the scheme and speak to your child’s Crew Leader if you would like more information.

Grand Designs: Phase One

As part of our ongoing school upgrades and rebranding now that we are part of the XP Trust, a team have spent most of today updating our school entrance. The space has been totally transformed and now truly reflects the incredible work going on throughout school: our values are now clear for all to see, children’s beautiful work is on show and our approach to Crew is visible to all.

The pictures below provide a glimpse into what the XP Comms Crew have designed, but please do bob in and see the changes for yourself. More updates will be taking place in lots of different areas across school and we cannot wait to share those with you in the near future.

Staff Days

Don’t forget we have staff days coming on on Friday 28th January and Monday 31st January.

Thanks Carcroft Crew

Crew Shields – 25/1/22

Team Building – lots of fun had while the crew developed their speaking and listening skills. There was some brilliant communication taking place and some children developing their leadership skills.

Crew Nursery are Builders

Some of the children in crew nursery have been busy planning and building tunnels for their construction vehicles. The children thought carefully about the shape and size of the bricks that they needed and they worked together to make strong and safe tunnels that were big enough to fit their vehicles inside. The children needed to change and adapt their tunnels as they tried to fit bigger vehicles inside. They worked well as a crew, listening to each other’s ideas and suggestions.

We are Builders in FS2!

As part of their expedition work this week, the children in FS2 have been learning about different professions and occupations. They have been exploring the tools that builders, plumbers and electricians regularly use and have used saws, screwdrivers, sandpaper and hammers themselves in their very own builders yard!
