Thursday After school Club

Unfortunately due to low numbers of children participating in Thursday cheerleading club we have decided to cancel the activity. After school club will still go ahead on Thursdays with pupils participating film club.

Crew FE Important Updates for Parents

Student Led Conferences
You should have received an email regarding Student Led Conferences taking place next week. Please follow the link for your child’s Crew leader in order to book a time slot. As your child will be leading the conference it is vital that they attend.

Trip
As you will be aware, we will be going on our trip to Cleethorpes on Wednesday 4th May (next week). Thank you for your contributions to ensure that the trip can go ahead. We are really looking forward to taking the children and experiencing the seaside to enhance our expedition “What happens where the sea meets the shore?”.

School lunches will be provided and children will not need any spending money to take with them. School will provide an ice cream for children whilst there.

Children will need:

  • to be in school uniform
  • Suitable sun protection such as a sun hat and sun cream (to be applied at home)
  • A raincoat

Summer Weather
As we move into the warmer weather, please be conscious of sending your child to school with suitable sun protection. Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school labelled with their name that they can access through the day. Cups are not provided in class due to the risk of spreading germs.

Thursdays
PE will now take place on Thursdays for Crew FE. Please send your child to school in suitable clothing and footwear such as jogging bottoms/shorts and comfortable shoes.
Homework is also welcomed into school on Thursdays so it can be shared with the rest of the Crew.

Any questions, please ask your child’s Crew Leader.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we informed you last week, this term we will be holding Student Led Conferences – our new version of Parents Evening. Children have been working really hard to prepare in school and we can’t wait for them to share their hard work with you.

We are pleased to say that the Google Forms are now open for you to book an appointment for you and your child. In order to complete your booking, please click on the name of your child’s crew below and complete the form which opens up:

Crew Whitehead

Crew Ferguson

Crew Evans

Crew Welburn

Crew Longley

Crew Godley

Crew Flaherty

Crew Gerrard

Crew Marsh

Crew Boswell

Crew Shields

Crew MI

Crew Fox

Crew McLoughlin

A few learning points from last time, in order to make things run smoother:

  • Please remember to ask your child which Crew they are in, if you are not sure, as you need this information when booking.
  • You only need to book for one slot. If you make a mistake, let us know and don’t book another slot as this will take a slot away from another child/parent.
  • You should receive an email of your form responses once you have submitted. This may go into your spam folder. Just in case, please make a note of the time you have booked so you don’t forget.

We really are hoping to get every parent in attendance at our first round of SLC’s as the children really are trying so hard in order to perfect ‘their’ SLC and can’t wait to meet with you to show you their fabulous learning.

We look forward to welcoming you all into school during the next couple of weeks.

Hook Week – We Found a Time Capsule!

Last week, Crew Nursery were given a letter and a treasure map from a child, Tom, who attended Carcroft School a long time ago! They followed the map to the forest school and found a time capsule! In the time capsule, Tom had put things inside to remind him of his family holiday to Cleethorpes. Crew Nursery loved exploring the objects and looking at Tom’s photographs! They are excited to learn about Tom and what seasides were like in the past!

Student Led Conferences (The new version of Parents Evening)

I am just writing to let parents and carers know that our children are currently busy planning and rehearsing for their very first Student Led Conference.

You might be asking yourself, ‘what is a Student Led Conference (SLC) though?’

An SLC is an opportunity for your child to share with you ‘what they are proud of’ and an opportunity for them to make ‘pledges’ in order to get better at anything they may feel less confident in as we head into the last part of the year. This will be different for every child.

Your child will do all of the talking during their SLC and the Teacher will only step in if they need some help. This is the main difference to the traditional Parents Evening model, your child will be doing nearly all of the talking and showing you pieces of work in which they are proud of. Then, before Parents and Children head home for the evening, everyone will write down a pledge, in order to support the child to make even more progress in the Summer Term. All of this will be led by your child.

Green Top and Plover have already experienced an SLC and have shared that it’s such a lovely opportunity to hear the children talking about their HoWLs and Academic Progress and Parents love to see their child leading a meeting such as this, as it’s such a huge experience. I can’t wait to see them in action!

Our SLCs are going to take place during the week commencing Monday 2nd May 2022.

We are currently just making a tweak to the electronic booking form and should be able to share this on Monday next week.

SLCs will be taking place on the following days and between the following times. So that all children can attend their SLC, we have finished them earlier than we would normally, with 4.50 being our last appointment time. However, if you require a later slot, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Class Teacher and they will be sure to accommodate you with this request.

Appreciation for our Awesome Staff Crew

Today I wanted to show my appreciation to some of our fabulous members of staff. I am sure that nearly every school in the world would argue that they have an amazing team of staff but I really do feel we have such a dedicated and hardworking staff crew, who go that extra mile for our children and are out of this world.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank some of our staff for moving classes this half term, in order to better support the pupils of Carcroft School. Like children, change can be unsettling for adults too, but our staff have embraced the change and have just slotted into their new crews. Without such flexible and understanding staff, our school would not be the fabulous place it is today.

In addition, this week, Mrs Ibbotson along with a number of dedicated Teachers and Support Staff, Ms Gilliland, Miss Hart (Mrs Adams), Mrs Taylor, Mrs Flaherty and Ms Haddock, took the children to Young Voices in Sheffield. This is always a long day for our staff but I know they would not miss this for the world. We really are so lucky to have such fabulous staff, who are willing to go above and beyond for the children, in order to provide memorable experiences, such as this one. None of this would be possible without the support of Mrs Wilcox in the office. Mrs Wilcox was Mrs Ibbotson’s right hand woman during the last few months, in terms of getting it all organised. Events such as these really are a whole school effort- thank you to you all.

We have had a fabulous first week back, the children have been awesome this week, but they really cannot be the best versions of themselves without the support of our amazing staff crew.

So, finally, a big thank you to all of the Carcroft Staff Crew for all that you do throughout the year.

Hook week in Year 1!

This week in Year 1, we’ve been hooked into our new expedition: Diverse Doncaster, Where do we belong?

We’ve had a visit from our expert, Geoff, who showed us our school and the surrounding area using his drone…

Then we discovered a time capsule full of objects and photos from the past!

And finally, we experienced what our school would have been like in Victorian times! We learnt all about the rules and what happened if children didn’t follow them. It’s safe to say that we prefer our school now, not in the past!

We can’t wait to show you what else we get up to in this expedition!

If you go down to the woods today…

The children in Crew FE had a very mysterious note delivered to school yesterday. They were asked to follow the map to find an interesting object that the sender had left there many years before.

The children quickly worked out that they had to head to the forest school area, as George said “X marks the spot!”. When we got there, we found a suitcase filled with lots of different items such shells, sand, rock and a swimming costume. We pieced the clues together to figure out that our note sender must have been to the seaside!
