Welcome back Crew MI

We started the day in crew discussing our Christmas holidays and it was lovely to hear the children sharing their highlights. We then practised our SLC’s ready for next week.

In maths we converted fractions to decimals and worked well collaboratively to support each other. The lesson really challenged our thinking but we all did a great job 🙂

In our expeditionary learning we started to think about how we see and how light travels. We watched a variety of clips to understand the different parts of the eye and how these parts are similar to a camera. We then took part in a scientific investigation where we explored the question, How do we know that light travels in straight lines? We used given equipment to set up our investigation and worked well in mini crews, ensuring everyone had a role. After discussions and a debrief, we started to think about writing up our scientific reports and what we would need to include.

First day back…

It has been a busy first day back as we caught on all the delightful things that happened over Christmas but also getting back into our routine. In Crew Shields, we find routines and structure very important so essential that we get settled in quickly.

We started the day with Crew and finding out what Santa delivered. Lots of very lucky children this Christmas.

We then started into reading which is a new text about the eye. We reminded ourselves about the importance of text marking and how this can support our comprehension.

During Expedition, we started with some hook activities to get us immersed in our learning. Absolutely great to see we have some history experts in the room. I may need to use that knowledge as we move through this expedition. We even started to infer what we think the guided questions may be based on what we’ve done so far. The big reveal will happen on Friday and no doubt we’ll be able to have some more guesses at the question.

Nursery’s first day with Miss McGlone

Today has been extremely exciting down in nursery… it’s been our first day with Miss McGlone as our teacher! We have been superstars showing her how well we take turns with one another, treat each other with kindness and we REALLY impressed her with how well we could tidy up after ourselves! Miss McGlone is so excited to be your teacher this year ☺️

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and thank you so much! 🎄

Today was the last day of Crew Gerrard, so we watched Christmas films, coloured in and just had a great time. It was a strange, surreal day and it was, unfortunately, time to say goodbye. You are an awesome, crazy bunch and I will miss Crew Gerrard very much!

I would just like to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity shown towards myself, whether it is this or previous years. It’s been a blast!

Frozen Lakes

Please see below an urgent message from Gary Davenport, Station Officer for South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.

Dear Parent
/Carer

Since the Tragic events in Solihull involving young people playing on Ice, It has come to our attention that young people in the North Doncaster area are also taking the opportunity to play on frozen lakes and ponds.

This obviously carries enormous danger as evidenced in the tragic incident in Solihull.

Please speak to the young people in your lives and express the dangers of playing on frozen ponds and lakes, especially as the weather is due to become milder and therefore the ice will begin to melt.

Stay safe.
