We have been exploring the artist, Peter Thorpe, he’s an American artist who creates abstract art about space. We have started to generate out own ideas in the style of Peter Thorpe.

Look at some of our wonderful creations! We’ve been getting experimental, using the craft resources, as well as the stickle bricks to make wonderful, imaginative creations.

We are so glad to be back at school with our friends, ready for our final half term in Nursery! We’ve been watering plants, building dens, drawing, climbing, nurturing dragon eggs, and playing with dinosaurs. It’s certainly been a busy start to the week!

Today we started our new writing block with an experience lesson. First, we completed a jigsaw of the front cover and blurb of our new book “Flood”. Then, the children took part in a silent conversation. They annotated the photos from the book with what they noticed, how they might feel and what actions might be happening. The children came up with some fantastic ideas and I was blown away with what they noticed! They even came up with some interesting wonders based on the pictures in the book! I can’t wait to see the ideas they come up with when we start to write our narrative!

Today in our book talk reading lesson we looked at the features of fiction and non fictions books. We worked in pairs to group the features and had a fantastic discussion around them. We linked them to previous books we have read and our class shared read.

As some of you may be aware, all year 4 pupils will be completing their MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) over the next 2 weeks (05.06.23 – 16.06.23), with the first round of testing starting tomorrow.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It also enables us, as teachers, to identify those pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
Testing will be done in no particular order so please don’t worry if you child comes home and says that they have not done the test yet but their peer has. As long as they complete it in the two weeks given then this is fine! ☺ For some children who we feel could benefit from any extra little practise this week they may not set their test until next week.
If you have a child/ren who are in Year 4, then they will be practising their timestables lots in school this week and may come home and share their practise scores with you (they will not know their final test scores until next month). If their score is below 25 (the pass mark) then it might be worth doing an extra little practise with them at home this week. Below are some useful links that you could use, or you could simply chant times tables together, write them down or do a quickfire test!

To make you aware the MTC test is a timed test where children are given 6 seconds to answer a multiplication question. The test comprises of 25 questions and to pass children are expected to achieve 25/25.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to pop into school and either speak to myself (Mrs Elmer) or your child’s Crew Leader.
Many thanks for your continued support.
This morning for our crew challenge, Mrs Rhodes introduced us to a new game. The children had to work as 2 groups. They stood on the line and choose a crew leader. It was the crew leaders job to instruct the rest of the crew so they had to listen carefully to their instructions. They could move forward or back but had to move as a group. When the other group was close they could charge. The objective was the tag as many of the other team as possible and get them to join the opposite team. This was a lovely activity as it showed us who were risk takers or who like to play it on the safe side. Not only were they building crew but having good fun as well.

Please remember to take your child to the dentist regularly. NHS dental care is free for children. All children aged 3-16 can fluoride varnish painted on their teeth by the dentist at least twice a year, to help strengthen their teeth and prevent tooth decay.
